Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Best Wax, Polish, Etc....Your Opinion", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
what color is it? That kind of dictates the polish/wax that you might want to use.
The other thing is, how serious are you about wanting it to look good. If you want it to look good vs. wanting it to look totally awesome there is a big difference in the work involved.
Originally posted by xman1035 I just received my Zaino that ordered from www.zainobros.com. The website showed some great looking cars and I hope it works on my new Tundra.
Zaino is a great finish on light colored vehicles, but if you have a dark colored one you'll probably like a three step finish using Klasse better (Clay, Klasse All in One, then Klasse Glaze). You can use 3Ms hand glaze in there too for an awesome, awesome finish.
Personally, I use Zaino on my white tundra and it's great. I do use Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion before I put the Polish Lock on though. Pinnacle is awesome and is the best "true polish" to use on new paint. I use it as a cleaner but it is a polish.
I have thought about using some Black Fire though when I run out. That looks like it has some potential. Some Zaino users have said they liked it.
You know what really works well out of the Zaino line though is their Z7 car wash and their Z9 and Z10 "leather in a bottle". I love using that stuff on my truck. It smells so good and the Z7 wash puts a light coating of Zaino on the vehicle so that when you dry it with their Z6 Gloss Enhancer and a microfiber towel it *really* glows. People definitely can see the difference.
But on a dark vehicle, I think Klasse is more appropriate.
Following up on Alan's post. Dark really looks good with a layer of 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, followed by 2-3 coats of Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze, and then topped off with a good carnuba like One Grand Blitz.
Last year, I used a 3M IHG and Blitz on my Sunfire Red Tundra and our black Avalon. This year I will be using the Klasse also.

And of course, you aren't limited to only one coat of One Grand Blitz. The more carnuba you have on, the deeper the gloss. It's not just about "shiny", it's about a wet looking, deep gloss too.
The only think about carnuba is that it evaporates so you have to apply it more regularly. But with the Klasse acrylic underneath, protection isn't an issue.
I"m sure that when nhparrot is done with his avalon this year it will look *really* good!!!
I was a Zaino convert for about 4 years. When I bought the Tundra 3 months ago, there was a horrible amount of swirls and rail dust.
I decided to buy the entire Griot's polish/wax package including the Porter Cable orbital. I wanted to try the entire package per their instructions. They have a lifetime customer satisfaction guarantee-nothing to lose.
I am a Griot convert now. First of all, I have no scratches or swirls anywhere-period. It's like a miracle. In bright mid-day sunlight, there are no more swirls. It's nothing but orbital polishing/waxing for me from now on.
But I really like the Griot's Best of Show wax. It deepens the color of my truck. It is shiney and wet for sure, but the depth of color and shine looks a mile deep. It's exactly the look I have been searching for and I finally found it.
Their stuff is not cheap, but hey, neither was the truck!!

Griot's does carry some pretty good stuff. Outrageously expensive for a lot of it, but most of it *is* the best money can buy.
I would imagine their waxes are quite good too. I bought their leather treatment and few other things from them, but I like Zaino's leather in a bottle better. I'm hooked on the great smell!! I cover it up though with 303 to make my seats water and stain resistant and slick as anything so it's easy to get into it.
Actually, Griot's wax is about the same price as Zaino. I had to move to something that would get the swirls out quickly. I have used Zaino's Z5 before, and it does reduce the appearance of the swirls, but does not remove them like polishing with an orbital.
Sal and the guys don't make any type of polishes, so I changed teams.
I'll get some pix taken. You may be interested as we have the same color. I didn't even know my paint was metallic until I polished all the garbage off with the orbital. Man it looks sweet.
I will say that it's a different look than Zaino. There is nothing I have ever seen that will give you a wet look like a couple of coats of Z2.......

Zaino's theory is to put on several coats of covering to fill in the swirl rather than have to polish out a scratch or swirl. I still polish, but on some deeper scratches rather than remove a lot, I fill.
How about the Thunder Grey? Would the Zaino products work well on it?
Zaino, of course, would look fine on it, but the Klasse route would probably look better.
As Glenn mentioned. Use 3Ms hand glaze first to liven up the paint and clean and polish it, then put the Klasse Glaze on top of it. The more coats you put on the deeper the gloss. Two looks much better than one and three looks even better, but beyond that there is decreasing returns.
You can follow up with Carnuba on top of that and touch it up with Crystal Mist when you wash it (or every other time or something like that). That way you'll have what looks like a freshly waxed truck all the time and it's almost no extra effort once you put get the proper finish on the truck. You take an extra 15 minutes regularly and it looks like you took hours....
The only problem with synthetics is that they don't have the depth that Carnuba has (well, as easily). But in using the natural stuff you have two disadvantages. 1) It will and does evaporate - especially in the sunny climates 2) The solvents to soften the extremely hard wax can be a little bit harsh on the top layer of paint. So on one hand it makes the paint look better, but on the other hand it's not great for the paint. For the better waxes this isn't an issue (well, not much). For "normal mortals" this isn't too much an issue at all.....
