A nice dent appeared in my passenger door, in a parking lot, and it cost me a $250 deductible to get it fixed. That was December, it still pisses me off when I think about it.
Anyway, compared to some of the other people I know with newer vehicles, the paint on my tundra is holding up well.
Aside from a few scratches from an off-road adventure (they’re really only very minor, and mostly have been buffed out), I have only managed to get one rock chip, from a guy with a weedwacker. He didn’t seem to speak any english when I stopped, so I just let it slide. Judging by how loud it was in the cab, I was surprised to only find a small ding on the door.
At least I got silver. And to think, I could have saved a grand on the black one they had....

I had the same problem. I decided to get a form-fit deflector. One nice thing about it is that it covers the areas to the left and right side of the grille if that's what you're concerned about.

Where did you get this deflector?
How much was it?
Was it hard to put on?
Do you have a picture of it on your truck?
Sorry for sooooo many questions, but I think I might want one of these.

I got it from here Very simple to put on, took about 10min. Hardest part was attaching a foam gasket under the grille since it is held on by it and not screws. Try a "search" and you can find more info on pros and cons.
If you look at my profile I have a larger pic of it on my truck. Although this isn't a permanent solution it does help. There are quite a few good size nicks on the deflector that I’d rather not have on my truck.
Paint chipping has been the only problem I've had and it is no small problem. The entire side of my 200 green Tundra looks like it has a bad case of zits. I had the truck up on the lift yesterday and counted 21 white, roundish chips all the way down the driver's side. Add that to the big white zit right in the middle of the hood and the 'keyed' stripe on the driver's door and it looks like I'll be buying into either a new paint job or a rusty beater of a Toy.
The paint is a major disappointment!
There's been some discussion about this on the Sequoia board, too. I bought the XPel product from www.autoclearguard.com and it has been great. I have found "smudges" on it that I know would have been paint chips, and they just buff off the material. It's nearly invisible on the truck, too. I always have to point it out to people looking at my truck. Go to their website, and you can see a picture of my black Sequoia after it was installed.
I'm fairly certain that upon inspection, any Toyota dealership, district service manager, etc. would chalk my paint damage up to "normal wear and tear".
I know that there's only about 10 minutes difference between a "Purty CLEAN Black Truck" and an "Ugly Dirty Black Truck". I know that there could be some expected "wear and tear" damage to the paint. But I swear to you that the paint damage my Tundra exhibits is well above and beyond what should occur with a 3 year old truck!
I tried the Toyota bra for some protection and now I HAVE to leave the bra on because the $.10 grille is scratched up where the bra rubbed it with wind movement!
I can't fully express here my total frustration and anger with the damage to what is a well-maintainted truck and what should be a highly attractive truck.
I haven't removed mine, of course, but the company claims that you can "peel" it off if needed, and that it doesn't damage your finish at all. They also claim that it's UV-protected so the material will not turn yellow, but allows light through so the paint underneath will fade at the same rate as the rest of your paint. Hmm, sounds like a tough trick! I keep both the mask and my truck well-waxed, so I don't expect to ever find out!
I used to race cars in the SCCA, and I did see numerous race cars with this stuff on it. I had a formula-type car, so there was obviously no kit for it. Anyway, one sedan driver liked it so much he bought another kit after a frontal crash. I used colored duct tape on the nose of my car, but I don't think I'd do that to my beloved Sequoia!
I had less than 100 miles on mine when I noticed my 1st chip.
And within 1,000 miles I had 5 chips.
I then purchased a full mask, but it didd't come with 2 of the fasteners.
So I just had the part that coverd the hood, and waited till the
dealer sent me the fasteners. Now with 1,500 miles on my brand
new Tundra I have a 6th chip.
Finally I received the fasteners and hope this will put an end to
this!!!
**Note** my neigbhor has a 1998 white ford F150, I went over and talked to him and asked if he had any chips on the front of his truck.....we went and looked NOT A ONE!!, and he has no front end protection.
I don't know what it is but the front of my Tundra must have a rock magnet built in

It's not a rock magnet skyman it's cheap paint. I went to the toyota web site and asked the question regarding the chips and warranty.
Guess what they wrote back................
Take it to a dealer and they will see if it is a paint problem or outside influence (rocks). I think we all know what the dealer is going to say (at least 1 of the 2 we have where I live) "It's a rock problem."
In other words even though I'm paying for a high quality truck I need to pay more to repaint it. And get it right this time!
I got the front end bra for my truck the problem is that it's so good at deflecting rocks that instead of (the rocks) going at it they just go at the rest of my hood! And I paid about $138 for an original toyota accessory.
Don't get me wrong my truck looks awesome with the all black look. Except for the white rock chips.
Hey,
Ok, my paint is chipping and pealing away. I have 31,000 on my truck which I purchased 2 1/2 years ago. I went to the dealerships' service dept. and they refereed me to their body shop (Kendall Collision). I went by today and the guy came out and agreed that it was a poor paint job and took pictures of the problem spots. He then said that a new paint job would only be covered if i had the Toyoguard option when I bought the truck. With out the Toyoguard, the warranty on paint is only 1-year, 12,00 miles. What ever happened to 3 year BUMPER TO BUMPER?! Is something wrong here, or am I just screwed out of a new paint job?
I just checked with my dealership and was informed that it is indeed a 3 year bumper-to-bumper and includes paint. I'd check with another dealership if I were you.
