Question paint coverage

Toyota Warranty=Rust through:60 months/unlimited mileage(corrosion perforation of metal. Taken word for word from the 2003 manual.Hope this helps./your factory warranty goes from original date of purchase,or when you drove it off the lot for 36 months or 36,000 miles which ever comes first.Powertrain is 5 years or 60,000 miles, again whichever comes first.I suggest that you run that vehicle through CARFAX to see if it had any problems prior to your purchase.Did you buy it new?

Unhappy

Truck was bought new in Aug. of 2000. I checked back with the dealer, and they again told me that w/o toyoguard, paint is only 1 year 12,000 miles...only w/toyoguard is it 3/36000. What gives? I don't think the corrosion warranty applies to the paint job, just actual rusting of the panel.

Default touch up paint

I noticed a few places on my truck where it looks like rocks hit it pretty hard and took some of the paint off. I've never used touch up paint before and I am wondering if there are any secrets behind it. Also it looks like I have a drop of green paint on my hood from something (who knows what), what is the best way of taking it off? Is there some sort of solvent that works best?

First tip is not to fill large holes in one application, use a toothpick dipped approximately 2 mm in the paint and allowed to flow to chipped location (ensure area needed fix is prep with light sanding). Use a new toothpick for each chip, let the first and subsequent fillings set for at least 2 hours before applying next coat. Fill the chip until the coatings are slightly over (higher) than the surface. Sand down the final coat approximately a week later. Polish, Wax, and Buff out to brilliant and smooth finish (seemless blend).

And for the green paint, use your polishing cream.

Good Luck!

I am talking small marks. Literally where the corner of a rock would hit and bounce off. Should I just dab the paint in the small crater?

Mothers makes a touch up kit to use with the paint that will basically keep it from buldging up and make it smooth with the rest of the paint. Not sure what its called, but if your interested, I can try to find it.

The same technique will be used for smaller chips in the paint---obviously it would take less applications but still the same. If your using the brush that came with the bottle ensure thin layers are put on.

I have used a touch-up paint marker from http://www.paintscratch.com They are a bit expensive but the color match is perfect. They also have good instructions online.
