Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Chrome Tube Steps", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Everything is already predrilled. Took me about 30 minutes to install mine myself. Would have been quicker if I'd had someone to hold them in place while I was trying to start the bolts.
I didn't have a torque wrench at the time I got mine so I had Pep Boys install mine for $40. Good thing about that is that the work is warranted and I can go back if I have any problems.
i bought mine from a guy i found thru e-bay... i got the ICI brand stainless steel tubes and they ran about $250.00 they bolted right up to existing holes on the back, and you had to remove a bolt and slip a bracket on for the front...very easy...

I bought a pair off of ebay a couple of weeks ago. Big mistake. The make is wildcat flash and while the seller claims these are easy bolt ons with no mods required, they are not! The front "square" hole in the truck frame (which is the one next to where the strut mounting bracket is welded to the frame) is too small to accept the nerf bar mounting bolt/barstock combination and the front nerf bar mounting bracket overlaps onto the strut bracket weld. I'm gonna return these units as I don't want to drill out the hole and have the bracket overlaping onto the strut bracket weld.
rbesr, are the Luverne units easy to mount? Does the front nerf bar bracket overlap onto the strut bracket weld? I'm considering exchanging my wildcats for those.
The Steps from Toyota are perfect, everything matches up, you can't make a mistake. Plus I like the step going all the way across. If in doubt, go with toyota.
Took me a little while, but I did it myself in the dark.
Bought mine off ebay. The one I have are probably the same as djjgia. Mine have one long plastic step pad instead of two. Bolted up with no problems at all. Hug the body a bit rather than sticking out.
100% satisfied. Also got for under $200 shipped to my door.
I purchased the same Wildcat Flash nerfs as twowheeler off ebay about a month ago, and had no problem at all installing them on my 2002 Access Cab. Couldn't find anyone to hold them in place while I did the bolting (which was sorta a pain in the ***), but never the less it was a pretty simple job, took maybe 35-40 minutes total. All holes lined up perfectly for me.
Has anyone tried the chrome plated stainless steel side steps from Performance Products.com? Their site states the following:
“Chrome is the best looking and longest lasting finish available. The problem is the metal under the chrome is susceptible to rust. Stainless on the other hand generally won’t rust however eventually it can yellow and lose its luster. Our solution is to apply top quality chrome to top quality stainless steel and have the best looking most durable parts you can buy. And at a price comparable to what you might pay for either chrome or stainless somewhere else.”
Although they run around $350 are these the way to go?
