Default Can my A.R.E. shell from AC fit a DC?

Been thinking of moving from my 03 access cab to a 04 double cab! It may be an expensive swap even though my 03 is paid off. Was wondering if my A.R.E. Z-series camper on the 03 AC would fit the double cab? Anyone got a pic of this or first hand knowledge? Thanks in advance,

Grant

I believe the DC bed is a few inches longer...

When I traded my 2000 AC in, I debated keeping the cap. My dealer said it would work... but I was skeptical. I don't know about the DC bed dimensions in comparision to the AC, but I do know the bed sides are higher. I don't know if the cab is also higher.... Also, the front of the DC bed has a curve to it... I don't know if the AC had that same contour. I have some pic's of my DC and cap in my gallery.

Anyway... when I talked to the A.R.E. dealer and told him the Toyota dealer said the cap on the AC would fit the DC... he said "The Toyota salesman might know trucks.. but he doesn't know caps. Let me sell you the cap". Now, of course, maybe he just wanted to make a sales, but I got the impression the cap wouldn't fit properly.

The new cap I got is specially made for the DC. A.R.E only had a limited number of models that fit the DC at this time. More were coming out later in the summer. I'd check with your A.R.E. dealer.

Default DC is different

From what I remember from the spec sheet (because this was a big concern for me when I bought my DC) the DC bed is 0.3" shorter than the AC. When I ordered my SnugTop last week, the salesman told me the big difference is the geometry of the back of the cab.

I guess if you want a cap that conforms to the back of your DC, you'll need to buy a model specifically for the DC. I can't say how much of a difference it is, maybe it's not a big deal.
