Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "shadow marks from debadging", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
i have an 04 double cab tundra and i recently debadged the sr5 emblems but its leaving shadow marks i was wondering how you can get rid of this, i tried using wd40 as i saw on another thread and tried waxing it as well. any input would help. thanks
The same thing happended when I peeled my badges off after two years on my 2002 Jade Green Tundra. Exposure to sunlight eventually got rid of the ghosting. Waxing won't help since the pigment is under the clearcoat.
For me, a clay bar, plenty of elbow grease, and a follow up with wax did the trick. I have a Silver Sky truck though, dark trucks like yours are more prone to the ghosting.

Have you tried compounding the shadow and surrounding area? I have also used colored was on a black truck in the past to some success. Sorry, I can't be more helpful--just brainstorming...

Try your cleaner wax first. Scratch remover is more abrasive and you'll have to go over it again with cleaner wax anyway. Chances are the reason it shows now is that the finish has been protected under the trim. Your whole truck probably had the gleam at one time.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
I shaved my emblems with 3 years of sun damage so I had major ghosting not even with a good waxing was I able to remove ghosting.
Still looks good though
I have an 03 and noticed ghosting the first day, after I took off the badges I washed the area where they were(didn't have time to wash the whole truck and the water would run around the ghostly images. So the next day I TEFLONed the spots(the rest of the truck I already did) and never seen the ghosts again.
