Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "In need of some opinions...(bed rug or liner?)", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Yeah, i used all the velcro strips and MORE. I asked the place where i got the bed rug to give me extra velcro if they could and the guy gave me another bag from someone else's bed rug so i had plenty of velcro to work with. Mine fit fine...i just wished it fit a lot better. I'm very anal about stupid stuff so for all i know it's perfect as is. It's still loose around some edges and corners but all in all, a pretty good fit. I wished the guy who put it in for me did a better job because the ride side seems to be a lil higher than the left (not by much, but enough to kinda bother me...like i said, i'm anal).
My self, I plan to do both the Line-X and the Bedrug. Double the protection, double the value, Use the bedrug for the camping trips, or excursions to the drive-in and the Line-X for the heavy duty moving.
2 questions...Will the velcro stick to Line-X, especially if you are going to be taking the bedrug in and out? Will the bedrug still fit the grooves on the floor of the bed? I know we're only talking about a fraction of an inch of Line-X, I'm just playing devil's advocate.

As of right now without the bed-liner the bed-rug already conforms to the bed. It has the grooves that go the opposite direction of the bed, creating a smooth surface. I would have to talk to my guy at the Line-X dealer if the velcro does adhere, but he is the one who suggested it to me and he is a member here. Let me get his name for yall so that if you have any direct questions I am sure he would be happy to answer.
The velcro is pretty flexible about usage taking things in and out as long as you don't just rip it out every time. If it does come off just go buy some more at Sams or Costco depeding on location.
--EDIT--
Just PMed him, hopefully he will post soon.
When I 1st bought the Tundra, I also considered getting both the Line-X and rug. Then I had a shell installed and decided that I would never need the Line-X (I don't haul anything that heavy). I also realized that I am way too lazy and would never remove the rug to get to the Line-x.

I'm the LINE-X dealer referred to above and I also sell Bedrugs as a secondary item. Both are very good products. (I sell Bedrugs cheap out the door, $275+tax). I don't sell anything I wouldn't buy myself.
I have read all of the posts and I think everyone is basically correct. LINE-X is the way to go for a permanent hard working liner. LINE-X is very nice looking and if you take care of it correctly, it can always look good as new. Bedrug is for those who won't be using their truck like a truck. The only thing that I have heard (not seen though) is that the Bedrug tends to sag a bit after a few seasons and that if you keep anything on it for a while, it will cause an indention in the carpet. I don't know if that means a permanent indention, though. As far as looks, my opinion is that LINE-X's sparkle in the sun and it's texture is much sharper looking than just looking at a dull colored carpet.
You CAN put a Bedrug on top of LINE-X and have the best of both worlds. Use 3M Emblem Adhesive to make the Velcro stick to LINE-X. You can buy it at Pep Boys.
So, the good news is that if you get a Bedrug or LINE-X first, you can always get the other later and have both.
It's easy to be critical, so here it goes: Speedliner needs an adhesive primer (glue) for it to stick to the bed, I personally don't like that. Your gonna need that fading warranty, because it does fade. They use aliphatic polyurethane which has very good UV tolerance, but they use MDL isocyanate which make their liner UV unstable. Keep in mind that tensile strength and temperature tolerance should be considered together. I'm guessing that Speedliners temp tolerance is around 175 degrees, like most 100% polyurethane liners. As the bed heats up in the summer and the temperature of the liner approaches its temp tolerance, it loses tensile strength. LINE-X has a 250 degree temp tolerance. I would guess that Speedliners tensile strength test includes a liner with Kevlar in it.
Let me know if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them. I'm an honest person and I'll tell you what I know and not try to "sell" you on anything.
Sure, I definately will try to make the meet. Did you see the pics of the Tundra we sprayed that's on this forum? We sprayed the bed, front bumper, and door sills. Here's the thread. Line-X: It's not just for beds anymore! (bumper & door sills)
How well does a bed-rug hold up under extreme exposure to heat and sun ?
I live in Arizona and I know how brutal the sun can be here, I'm wondering if anyone in AZ has a bed-rug on their Tundra and has any comments ?

123Gone,
Nice job on the Line-X....just got mine done by John of Delaware Valley Line-X in Willow Grove Pennsylvania.(see photo gallery)....I love it and it looks great...just one curious question...how come you dont spray the bed bolts?....I used the bed for 3 yards of dirt and 4 yards of mulch and had the mulch sitting in it for over a week and the bolt heads started showing signs of rust (must be the lignins and tannins in the mulch!....yes I am a chemist )....so John said he would just sray them in place too to prevent this for continuing....no need to ever touch those bolts unless you are removing the bed....so just curious why you dont spray them.....the contrast between the white bolts and black liner does look nice though.

We can either spray the bed bolts or not, it's the customer's decision. 99% of the customers do not want the bolts sprayed. If the bed ever had to be removed, such as in a repair, the liner would have to be torn up to get to the bolts.
Those bolts should not rust. Tundra's are made with exposed hardware from the factory. Perhaps the dealer needs to replace them under warranty.

Too late now they are part of the Line-X liner! I'm hoping I'll NEVER have to remove the bed for repairs....that would mean I've just been in a fairly bad wreck!!!

BTW, keep it looking good as new by spraying Just Once (www.justonce.com) on it a few times a year. You don't need it right away, though, just when you thinks it needs some freshening up.
........Bedrug is for those who won't be using their truck like a truck..........
I find this statement annoying. I use my truck to pull a boat during the summer and snowmobiles during wintertime. Per your statement, I don't really own a "truck".
From my vast driving experience on the roads of the U.S., most trucks I see are pulling something, as opposed to carring something in the bed.
Maybe it's you that doesn't use his truck as a "truck".

Don't be annoyed, 123 was just saying that if you are going to haul rocks/dirt/sod/horse cr@p/dead bodies/etc. in the bed of your truck then Line-X is probably the way to go.
