This is a discussion thread titled "Seat Belt Retractor Noise", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
My driver's side seat belt retractor (the part holding the belt high - above the door) makes a creaking sound at times. Anyone else have this problem? What's the fix?
Yup... mine is having the same problem... and it's really getting on nerves since the seatbeat box is right next to my ear! I'm guessing greasing the area would do the trick.

The original seat belt(replaced when it wouldn't retract) did not have "the creak", but the replacements(3) have all had it. It IS an annoying sound right by your ear.
My Tundra doesn't do it...but my wifes Solara does. Same belts. It is freaking annoying. I can't tell if it is the belt going through the loop, or the pivot inside of the piece. I'll tear it apart and find it one of these days that it really bothers me. Luckily I don't drive it that much.

I had the same problem.. Sprayed it with silicon spray which seemed to take care of it.
My big problem with my belts are that they don't retract most of the time. I can't tell you how many times I closed the door on the buckle.. Ticks me off every time that happens..

RR,
Clean your seatbelts to remove all the dirt and grime and also clean the slot where they go through the anchor by your shoulder. I found that the underside of the slot gets all kinds of dirt and oils and makes it hard for the belt to retract through there. I use a pipe cleaner to get it out of there and it makes it work nice again.

Yes... I was going to have them look at it when I take it in for my inspection in August.

I heard that problem too and when i took it in they didnt hear it(of course) but they tightened every thing up and that stopped it! The passenger side is starting to do it too and i think i'll just take the cover off and spray some WD-40 around the bolt and make sure its tight. Good luck!
