Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "new poster, tundra cap question", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
First off I have just joined Tundrasolutions and this is my first post. Thank you for allowing me here and I apologize in advance if I step on any toes inadvertantly or ask a question that has already been asked.
Now to my question. I am about to purchase a Tundra. I'm not sure if I will go for the AC or DC yet, but I am interested in puttting a cap (what we used to call a camper shell) on the vehicle. Will my mileage be adversly affected? I used to own a regular cab Isuzu with a 4 cyl engine and my mileage actually increased when I added the cap.
While you may not experience a mpg increase I'd say if a shell is something that'll make your Tundra more useful or enjoyable for you I'd do it no matter what. Actually I think most owners have noticed a slight drop, probably from the added weight.
Larry
PS: Welcome to the group.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
I bought my Tundra in July '01 and averaged 13mpg. In Sept '01 I added the TRD exhaust, still got around 13 mpg. Added a cap in Aug '02, again, 13mpg. Now in '04, yes you guessed it, I'm still getting about 13mpg.
Oh yeah, Welcome to TundraSolutions

Welcome to the club, bystander. Here's a picture of my Tundra cap. It hasn't affected my gas milege too much, but everyone seems to be jealous of it Take it easy!

Bystander -
I bought an 04 4x4 DC a few months ago. I love it. First mod was a SnugTop *shell* (I'm old school). It lowered my MPG just a touch. Needed it for camping, etc. I'm happy with that. Just had DR coilovers and Deaver springs installed and I'm very happy with that - made the family wagon (boat) feel like its got some offroad prowess. Took it into the dirt a few times now and it's hella fun.
