Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Strange sounds (access doors)", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
My Dad has an '03 Tundra with the skinny rear doors that open opposite of the front. I'm not sure what you call it. Anyway, he is complaining that the cab seems to 'rack' when he is turning and traveling over uneven surfaces. He say's he thinks the cab is 'racking' beacuse he'll hear cracking and popping noises that sound like they're coming from the doors when he's turing and traveling over uneven surfaces. Is this a common problem? I own a Sequoia that makes noises from either the headliner or sunroof, but that is a common problem.
I only hear creaking from the frame [I think, or leaf springs] when I have the windows down. Where I park, I go over several speed bumps goin like 5 mph or less at funny angles so I get to test this out everyday lol
I dunno what you mean by "rack" but it could just be some minimal movement with the cab flexing

My 01 does the same friggin thing. I've brought it back to the dealer several times but they said there isn't any adjustment in the rear door. I find it hard to believe that Toyota wouldn't issue a TSB on this if its such a common problem. I would say that it's a body flex "creak" sound.
My 2000 AC made a rattling noise in the rear door when going over bumps. There is plastic "filler" between the metal outside and plastic inside of the doors. This is held in place with some plastic tabs and mine would pop out. I had to push on the inside top of the door, next to the rear door window, to pop it back in place. Then the rattling would stop until it worked itself out again....
Bring it back to the dealer. there is a TSB on it (Look in the TSB section of this forum) about replacing the access cab door locks/latch assy. The dealer replaced all of mine after pointing out that the truck sounded like a cheap jap truck after only 1 1/2 years. This was done 2 1/2 years ago and never did it again.
The only TSB that I could find that applies to this is BO 017-03 entitled "Trim Garnish Loose". It refers to replacing the damaged clips that hold the trim garnish, or interior plastic fill inside the doors in place. The ones in my 2000 AC became bent over and no longer snapped into place properly. When they are not snapped into place, this plastic fill can rattle.
