1) If I debadge my tailgate to get rid of all of the "TUNDRA-IFORCE-V8..." bagdes, does it leave any holes in the tailgate? I know that on the older cars, there used to be small holes that the badges used to be put into to hold them still. Is that still the case?
2) What do you think of the debadged tailgate look? Does it look good, or not?
Steve, I have two answers to your two questions...
1) No holes are left. The badges are just put on with double-sided tape stuff. It's thicker than tape and super sticky. The best way to remove the badges is to heat them up (hair dryers work well but don't let your wife catch you ), then floss some 20-lb fishing line in btwn the badges and the paint. Remove remaining chuncks w/ fingers, remove residue with 3M adhesive remover.
2) I think the look is great. I removed all badges from my tailgate with the exception of my 4WD on the bottom right. Also removed the big side badges on the doors. I left the small limited ones by the side windows for now.
Hope this helps. I'll send you a pic if you want to see what the tailgate looks like...just let me know!
If you squint your eyes you can kinda see how my tailgate looks without the badges All of my badges have been taken off, all that is left are the black moldings that protect my truck from swinging doors. Check out my photos below.
I removed all badges except for the 4X4 V8 badge on the right side tailgate. I wanted make sure people know that my Tundra is a 4x4 V8. You would believe how many people ask me, "Is that a V8?" I replaced the SR5 with carbon fiber "TRD" badges and replaced the big TOYOTA TUNDRA badge on the left side tailgate with a carbon fiber "TRD Supercharge" badge. If they make carbon fiber 4x4 V8 badges I'd get 'em. It's so much easier to wash and wax the truck now! Alohas.
I did the badge removal thing on the doors using a heat gun and floss which kept breaking and finally ended up with kite string. It was dificult.
I decided to revise the tailgate ToyotaTundra badge by removing Toyota and leaving Tundra. See photo below. I used Meguiars Quick Detailer spray. Just squirted the badge and paint and then did the string thing. I went through the word Toyota in about 3 seconds. Almost went too far. What an aid the Meguiars is. I then had to use my thumbnails to remove the foam tape but there was no residue to worry about. I just took a rag and the detailer spray and wipped and it was instant clean and with a shine.
I used a pair of electrical wire cutters to cut between Toyota and Tundra and then my trusty sharp pocket knife to trim flush. No scratches from the knife, I was real carefull.
Looks good, have you thought about moving the emblem more towards the tail-light? I think it looks alittle out of place having the badge kinda "floating" there.
Yes, given it some thought. Does anyone have any leads on the OEM double sided tape? If I can find some sticky I will move it over as it would look better.

Nice job! It looks good and much cleaner to me. I posted in the truck/suv forum the same thing. Made sense to me. The only difference, I have the Tundra badge at 2 3/8" from the edge of the left gate side. The I-force badge is the same distance from the right edge to keep the balanced look. I used a FRP badge to make the new "Tundra" badge.

I did the same exact thing. Looks smooth but, also gives a little bit of identity to my tundra.

I used my wife's hair dryer, but soon abandoned the fishline idea. It seemed easier to just pull 'em off by hand. A little adhesive remover from an auto body supply store, and the smooth look is all yours.
Sorry I can't tell how the TRD badge came off -- I had some body work done on my truck, and they pulled off the decals as part of that job.
BTW, if you're near San Francisco, I'd sure loan you a little of that adhesive remover. It's sold in cans that must hold over a quart, and you only need enough to wet a rag! Bring your own sealed container!
It seemed to take forever with that old white hair dryer my wife had. Later, I saw her using a new black one. I asked her what happened, thinking I'd ruined her dryer for sure. She said she hadn't been able to get much heat out of that old white thing for months, and had got a new one weeks before.
Moral: make sure you "borrow" the right hair dryer -- or, better yet, buy her a new one, and give it to her AFTER you've finished.
