Default paint Help

have a 2004 tundra. It has the salsa red pearl paint. I have had about 3 months and no problems (except this one) and noticed these small spots all over the paint. I wash my truck at least twice a month and sometimes weekly based on bugs/dirt. I have tried everything to get the small spots out. Clay bar, wax, etc... To no avail, the spots are still there. Took to the dealership and they buffed out (high speed buffer) with no results. Now they are telling me they will have to send out for 2 days and have the truck wet sanded and buffed, and then tell me if that doesn't work, they will have to paint it. Well I do not feel comfortable with them sanding a brand new truck and can't beleive it needs painting after only being 3 months and I know it will never look right after repainting. To top everything, they were going to make me pay to have fixed. I even paid the extra paint sealant and undercoating when I purchased the truck.
Now after fighting with them they are going to fix but with the warnings above.
I personnaly have never had this problem with all the new cars I have purchased. I just can't buy its acid rain (could be but so deep they have to wet sand). I feel it is deeper than that, possible paint problems. If they have to sand down into it, then I am guessing the paint process was just not good for this truck.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated,

thanks in advance
Joe

Any idea if the spots were there when you purchased it or if they appeared later? I went to look at a friend's Honda Accord once which he described as having mysterious spots that he hadn't noticed before. Turned out he had been near a section of highway where they were striping and the airborn paint had settled on his car. We weren't able to remove these spots either but it really wasn't that noticeable.

The spots have been there as long as I can remember. The spots are not that noticeable. You see them better with good lighting. I wouldn't worry, but fear that if left on, they will just get worst. Then it goes out of warranty and then the dealer will definitely not repair. I am really wondering if somebody else has used something that can take them off, I really don't want them sanding the paint at 3 months of age.

I think there is a TSB on Paint issues.

well I figured I would bring a thread back to life instead of starting a new one

Today I walked out to my truck and saw this, a HUGE paint chip, with flaking all around the point. It's about 1/4 inch big, and 1/4 of cracked paint around that. So about 1/2 inch of affected area. I called Toyota and got a case number. I figure hopefully they will make it right, a truck this new should not have chips like this, I understand small ones, but this big? The Toyota regional rep will contact me within 3 days, hopefully Toyota will follow through with this, I have not been disapointed yet, they have taken care of me before!

I am such a careful driver, and take great care of my paint, this is so disapointing to have this happen! My birthday present to myself will be 3m rockguard. Any other spots in the picture are just dirt, this is the only chip on the fender.

I also have the salsa red on my 2005 tundra double cab. When it was 5 months old and had only 1200 miles on it, my wife drove it about 600 miles in winter weather. She drove through a pass in Idaho that had been graveled due to weather conditions. I had washed the pickup before she left, and again when she returned. The was not one chip on the truck when she left. When she returned, there were several hundred chips on the truck. The majority of them are on the hood and behind the rear wheels and the leading edge of the rear bumper, but I also have them on the sides and roof of the vehicle. I also experience easy scratching. I took it to the dealer and after several months, a factory rep looked at it. He said it was normal and not warrantable. He commented on the fact that my undercarriage was heavily chipped also. I had noticed when it was new that the frame and driveline had very thin, if not missing, paint, but did not think anything of it at the time. Now, they used that as part of their determination to reject my complaint. If I would have known about the paint issues, I would have taken it back completely. I finally broke down and bought touch up paint a couple days ago since I plan on selling the truck because of the paint. I just found this site today and decided to vent. I also lodged a complaint with the factory, but they said unless they get enough complaints, it is not considered an issue. Tim
