This is a discussion thread titled "Which spray on bedliner fades the least ??", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Out of the many bedliners out there, Rhino, Line-X to name afew, fades the least. I'm more than sure they will all fade, but is there any that seem to fade the least? What are some of your opinions on various spray ons? Thanks
They're all about the same. I've heard and seen great things from Line-X, but no matter what you get. IF you don't keep it clean and keep the dirt off of it; it will dull. what happens is the grit of the dirt scrape the shine off leaving the faded nasty you described.
Heavy duty spray-on stuff probably holds up better than the roll-on stuff they sell at Walmart, though.
If you are concerned about a bedliner fading, maybe you should consider covering it up with a tonneau cover like a Retrax or other retractable tonneau cover.
Another option you have is always keeping it clean, and using a plastic polish spay. I found one spray product I used on my body side molding, and other plastic trim to remove wax residue. Works great, and restores the black shine.
First of all, let me tell you what "fading" is. Fading occurs when the pigment "breaks out" of the top layer of the bedliner due to UV light, pollution, etc. The result is what most folks call "chalking", that is, it turns gray. Some brands are much worse than others. Some brands advertise that their liners won't fade because they use an aliphatic polyurethane resin as opposed to aromatic polyurethane. But, they still fade! Why, you ask? Because: 1. Aliphatic poly is more UV resistant, but is not UV proof. 2. There are other chemicals in the bedliner, such as isocyanate, that render the bedliner UV unstable.
So, what's the answer, how do you keep the liner looking good as new? As far as LINE-X, you have 3 choices:
1. Keep the liner clean using just water and scrub it with a stiff brush. Apply Just Once (www.justonce.com) on the liner a few times a year.
2. Have the dealer apply Ultrashield. Ultrashield is a topcoat that will prevent fading. Ultrashield is not as shiney as plain LINE-X. It's not expensive.
3. Have the dealer apply DuPont Nason paint on the liner. Nason paint is an automotive paint and it won't fade.
I recommend option #1. It's easy and inexpensive. If you just don't want to take care of the liner, choose option #2 or #3.
Question for 123 Gone, You're in Ft.Worth, about 100 miles from me in Waco. How much do you spray the Line X coating in the bed of a dc tundra 05 model for? I would want the color black. Also, in your response to my earlier question, how much for you to apply the Ultrashield, and secondly how much more if I oppted for the Dupont product?

Just to give you options, I had mine done to the "Charcol" color Line X has. It matched the bed caps almost exactly!
