Default Rear door panel removal?

Hi all,

I have to replace both rear quarter window locking latches on my 2000 Limited Access Cab because they cracked, one actually fell apart (cheesy design Toyota). Has anyone ever removed the rear suicide door panels before? I'm wondering if they are like some of the door panels that I have removed many years ago on American cars where there are numerous tab-type clips that get beat up or destroyed after the first removal.

I've heard some of the newer Fords don't have these clips and you have to remove all the door hardware and lift the door panel up out of it's securing notches. You would definately do damage trying to remove a panel like that one using the methods required for the older standard clip type.

I have the Toyota factory manual, and it doesn't go into detail on the removal of the door panels. If anyone has had to perform this job before, I'd sure appreciate your advice.

Thanks, Brian

Talking You betcha

I actually did it just to clean them out. Its really easy. 2002 SR5 AC. You will want to unscrew everything, the screw behind the lock and down in the cubby handle. I think its only those two. Please look at my Project Labor Day Detail, I color coded the screws/connections and views of all door panels. Once unscrewed I just started to pull. Becareful not to rip out the locking mechanism, but everthing just "pops" out. I hope this helps. Any questions please reply or PM me.

I just removed mine this past weekend...be sure to remove the bezel around the door latch before pulling the panel off. Also, check out this website for the locations of all the tabs....

http://www.gwfweb.com/tundra/tundra.htm

Then, click on "silence of the tundra" that is in the menu bar to the left. All the pictures are there that you will need.

Talking Awesome Photos! Thanks!

Great work with the step-by-step instructions & photos!

I've been a bit hesitant in tackling this myself, but now I won't!

I still need to wait 'til I have the extra $ for new speakers and the Brown Bread stuff... and I have to repair a cracked driver's front panel and may recover the panels with vinyl instead of cloth while I have them off!

I wish I could take credit for that web page, but I can't! That is gary's page (I can remember his TS name) and I used it this past weekend to help install my Brown Bread!!! He did an awesome job of documenting the steps!!

Look into Peel and Seal as a cheaper alternative. I found mine at Lowes for $12.45 for 12.5 Sq Ft.

Thumbs up It's all cool!

Actually Shawn, pictures and a couple hundred words are even better!

Hey anmrivera - how does the composition of the Peel & Seal compare to Brown Bread? Is it as thick/dense? How good of a sound deadening job did it do for you?

Thanks guys!

Jeff

I just have the floor and rear wall done. I have noticed a huge difference in sound. I am going ot get the doors done soon. Reading other post in the http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...splay.php?f=35 others have said it is the same as the original Dynamat. Do a search in the forum for peel and seal and I am sure you will agree for the money it is worth it. JnEsPappa is the one that sold me on it. You can find large bulk rolls for cheaper but I was very happy with how easy it was to handle and work with the 6" wide roll. I will have pics posted in a few days if not today!
