I saw a black double cab in a parking lot the other day.
The paint had some serious orange peel flaw in it.
So if your thinking of buying one look out for this paint defect.![]()

Hey atoyotardnut,
Just curious... "where" on the truck... did you notice this orange peel?
Being a TS member... I'm taking it for granted... that you're probably aware of this "look" on the lower rocker panels... which... as we all know... is normal... since it's a protection feature, which Toyota uses in their trucks.
As to whether it actually makes that much of difference in protection... well... I think that's kinda' left up to the individual.![]()

yeah if you look close at any of todays cars that is a result of the electrostatic adhesion method they use to paint cars...you don't get that thick coat high gloss super smooth sheen that you would get with the old multiple laquer/enamel coatings used on cars in 50's and 60's. I remember my buddys 32 Ford Coupe...had 8 layers of enamel paint!!!

The bottoms of the doors & decks get a layer of "anti-chip" on it (unless the truck is ordered with one of the plastic steps, all decks get this coating) this is to keep the metal from showing and rusting if the paint gets chipped. If it was anywhere else on the vehicle, was it that the O/P was not there and there was a "shiny" spot?Originally Posted by atoyotardnut

One month ago I traded in my 01 Tundra. 4 1/2 years and 100,000 miles. Upgrading to the doublecab was a no brainer. Bigger, more HP, 6 disk JBL, Sunroof, a very sweet SR5.
In 2,200 miles on my new Tundra I have more paint chips on the nose, fenders etc..than my 01 had in 4 1/2 years. I have the Blue Mica. The chips show up white. To say it looks like crap is an understatement and its a shame, because the blue is drop dead georgouse.
So whats the deal? I have read some snips on the net saying that yes this is a problem. Is this something Toyota going to adress? Whats my recourse? If Toyota waffles (not that me and the state ag will let them), what can I do to fix it, re-clear coat the nose maybe?
Thannks for the input.
my white 05 has a dozen chips on its nose too.![]()

Should have gotten the clear shield / clear bra installed.
My Camry has 10,000 miles on it and not one chip on the front end where the clear shield is.

I have a 2005 Tundra Double cab. I must have a hundred paint chips on the bottoms of my doors. There are some spots the paint is almost gone. I talked to the local dealership and they said they cant help me. I called the customer service and they said no also. They said i need to get and arbitrater. Any advice.
Do what I did and move to the lower 48. Nye has got way to little competition and so of course won't do anything for you. Not saying they are the only business with that problem there either, the market just needs some competition. But, they did take pretty good care of me most of the time. Are your mudflaps still on the truck?Originally Posted by mepierre

I allready moved to New Mexico and talked to Toyota on the phone and got nothing out of it. I really like the truck but the paints a huge downer. I dont know what i am going to do. I dont want to pay to get it repainted and I dont want to pay an arbitrator.
