I plan on using the original bed bolts. I'll just find some D rings that will work with the factory bed bolts. My truck still hasn't arrived at the dealer - was due this week, but I think this sucky weather has it delayed. Once I have it in my garage, I can remove a bed bolt and see what D rings will work with it. A place that sells cargo(box) trailers, usually have a good assortment of D rings.

Thats a good idea. Wish I thought of it.. ha ha. But I had already ordered the yota D-Rings. One thing you can try is getting the toyota d-rings and removing the bolts that come with it and using the bed bolts in it's place, that is something I didn't try.

Any luck?
How about get a set of rear D-rings and mount them in the front (maybe close by drain holes)?
I have a 03 Honda TRX 400ex 4 Wheeler and also have the front D-Rings. I straped it to them with no problems at all. And thats all i used.. I pulled the staps pretty tight as well. No movement. The front D-Rings worked like a charm. And its over 400lbs with gas.

So no problems so far hauling the quad in the 5 ft bed? Im still debating on the 5ft bed for an occassional quad haul. I would love to see a pic of the Taco with the quad in the back and any other info you have on hauling it back there, thanks
I will take one monday.. My days off are monday and tues. I have the 2005 DBL Cab 4x4 Long bed.. Not the 5 footer.. Thats way too small.. Dont like the look either. Thats why i got the long bed. But yes the front d-rings hold with no probrlems. THe dealer installed them as well. Never had an issue yet with them
Just an FYI: I installed the Toyota D-rings in the front of my bed. Despite the instructions indicating to remove the plastic wheel well liners, I found it easy to do the job without removing these.
So far, no problems. After my experience of drilling thru the composite bed, it's apparent that the material is strong, but, also brittle (similar properties to iron). I think someone indicated that they are rated at 400lbs. That may be true, but, I'd be a little careful; I can see where a lateral rocking motion with enough tension on the rings could cause some bed damage.
In either case, I'm glad I installed them. I find I use them more than the rail sliders. I'm surprised Toyota didn't include these as OE.
There are 3 drain holes in front of bed. 2 of them are forward of bed bolts.
There is an illustration of mounting a blue dirt bike in the bed.
The bike is secured by strapping the handle bar to 2 front D-rings.
There are 2 straps. The driver side is not clear due to the shadow of light source. The passenger side clearly show the tight down strap ended where the drain hole is.
Conclusion: D-rings could be mounted where the drain holes are.
I mounted front D-rings according to factory specs. Easy to install w/o removing fender liners, although a helper to hold one wrench would have made it a little easier.
I have no qualms about strength -- I use motorcycle tiedowns and cinch them up tight with no sign of bed wall flex. I keep the tiedowns in the rear bed compartment.
Anyone know what those silly bed cutouts over the wheels are for?
they are for putting junk in... i use them when camping since i put an inflatable mattress in the bed. it works like a little night table. i put my keys and a flashlight usually. i also like the little flat spot on the wheel well. works great for resting beers while chillin
Just picked up my 05 Tacoma DC and was looking around in the bed and only saw rear tie-down points. I know there are the four rail brackets but these don't seem strong enough to hold the tie-downs for my dirt bike.
Does anyone have a place in the front of the bed to anchor tie-down straps? Are there any aftermarket parts available or does Toyota make any parts?
Thanks for any help!
Bill Young
If you want a useful front tie-down, remove the from bed mounting bolts (Torx T55) and install either a D-ring assembly or mounting plate with tie down point. The bed bolt is over 2" long so you have lots of length. The side mounted front corner d-rings are good only for light loads like bicycles.
the spec on the front d-rings is 400lbs on each if im not mistaken...
even if it was only 200, that would be enough to carry most anything you could fit in the bed, when combined with rear d-rings and tie downs. remember that the weight is distributed among tie down points.
im liking the looks and spot where the d rings were put in the drain holes. tonight im gonna go home and see if there is room to just put a 2x5'x1/4 peice of aluminum for a backing plate.
