Question 2005 Tacoma Front Bed Tie-Downs??

Just picked up my 05 Tacoma DC and was looking around in the bed and only saw rear tie-down points. I know there are the four rail brackets but these don't seem strong enough to hold the tie-downs for my dirt bike.

Does anyone have a place in the front of the bed to anchor tie-down straps? Are there any aftermarket parts available or does Toyota make any parts?

Thanks for any help!

Bill Young

You need to get these. They will add a pair of D-Rings to the front of your bed. I believe that there is already a mounting point for them. I think I've also heard that the rail cleats that come with the truck will hold bikes, but I've never tried it.

The D-Rings really interests me. Any photos? How much do they run?

Thanks

They are the same D-Rings that are near the tail gate from what I understand. On-line the factory wants $50 for them, but I'm sure it would be a little cheaper from the dealer.

Ive already tested the sliding cleats, and they hold my dirt bikes just fine, had two bikes in there over the weekend and had NO problems...just make sure they are tightened completely

ive wondered this myself owning 2 dirt bikes, but if you look at the front, they are diff than the back. the front is simply a hole in the plastic bed liner, where as the back is a bolt through the frame as well. my bet would be with out some kind of reinforcement at the bottom, it would pull them through the bed. good to hear about the sliding clamps tho.......

The dealer instructions for installing the factory front d-rings are at:

http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...ad.php?t=30897

They go through the sidewall of the bed. I had a pair put in my double cab before I took delivery. IIRC, the dealer charged $98 for the D-rings with installation. You can't have too many tiedowns. I also got an extra pair of bed rail tiedowns and a pair of bike (bicycle) fork mounts.

I towed up 2(300+lbs) street bikes all the way up from S.D to Parhump, NV using only those cleats and both bikes didn't move an inch. Did it's justice!

Do you have any pix of the installation? My truck will be here next week. The dealer really has no experience with this. Is this the way the instructions tell you to do it?

Doug

From what I understand, the 4 factory slide rings are rated at 250lbs EACH and 400lbs for the rear D-rings. This should be more then enough for most anything if secured properly, unless your application makes it difficult or impossible to secure properly from the sides.

I believer those are drainage holes (not a bad idea). The front D-ring are supposed to go in new holes through the sidewall.
