Some say it's the special compond they use on the bumpers to make them curve like that... It is very noticeable on the black XR... As for the other colors, I have no idea as I didn't look closely...
Still, I wonder why they can't make it match better than they did...
The dull color almost look like a Macco paint job cheap style...
Oh well, I won't be looking at the truck from the outside anyways...
I have a black one and I haven't noticed any color or gloss difference to the bumper at all. But has anyone noticed that the chrome grill, with those pointy upturned end tips, looks a little like the devil?
I can really notice it on my truck. Its the same way on the fender flares.

mine and my borthers x runners are like this. the body kit is all nice and clearcoated while the bumper does not look like it is. looks to be some kind of anti chip paint, just a lil rough.
The dull paint on the flairs and bumpers is something that I have noticed too. As a matter of fact that is why I'm not gettig a dark color truck - it is much more noticable on the darker colors - I'm getting either silver or radiant red.
Its because of the texture , If you look close there is a pebble finish on the flairs and bumper , When painted this causes the paint to "dieback" , Im a painter , it is completely normal .
Maybe because it's ummmmmm. . . PLASTIC! The body is gonna look much better b/c it smoother and doesn't have those pits like what MERCULA mention. My bumper doesn't look bad at all, but the fender flares is where you can really tell.
Most cars have discolored bumpers because of the plastic they use , most door handles are off a shade also .The texture is there to help hide/deflect any chips we may get (dosnt work) As a duller finish will show less flaws , Toyotas are great for their thick rocker protection and very nice paint , some of the finest OEM ive seen , Next time you see a light gold camery or Lexus look at the bumpers , and be glad our tacoma bumpers are just a tad dull and not a different color.
