Default Front mudflaps with lift/ bigger tires

Has anyone who has taken off their front mudflaps because of rubbing of bigger tires found anything aftermarket to replace it that would work? Thanks

I haven't seen anything that looks that great. I bought fender flares (aftermarket) instead.
Sorry, not much help here.

I pinned mine back against the rocker for about six months. After I released them they went down but were about 3" back from their original positon. They've been like that for at least a year and never did return to their normal position. No rubbing at all now. I'd say you might be able accomplish the same thing with some heat.

Hmmm.... wonder if that would work for a DC as well?! btw: Triple BB, what "size" tire are you running and if you have any "lift" up front... how much?

take a heat gun and the adjusting spanner for your coilovers (or a chisel or something else narrow, sturdy, flat and metal) and push 'em back slowly. works great, theyll move back several inches.

Sounds plausable... that "also" work for the DC, taking into consideration, that the mud guards are mounted differently on an AC?!

no idea. i didnt know they mounted different. i have the molded overfenders tho, your muds might install same as mine, b/c mine install different from the rubber mud flaps on trucks with the chrome or no wheel mouldings.

Hey Sean,

Well, from what I remember, the AC models have a "contoured" mud guard, which is kinda' molded to the shape of the fender flares and the body. On the DC models however (with or w/out fender flares), the mud flaps (for the most part) are basically "flat", similar to the ones used on all pre '05 Tacomas. That said, I question how well, the idea of using a heat gun, etc., to "re-mold/move" the mud guards further back would work, hence the reason I asked?!

IMPO, I have NO desire to remove my front mud guards to "allow" for larger tires! I understand, that it's an on-going issue with all DC owners who chose to "lift" their trucks and go to larger tires. Granted, I think that the "larger" the tire, the worse this "rubbing" [of the front mud guards] is. Still though, I'm looking for SOME kinda' alternative to "removing" the mud guards.

Right now, the only option (I'm reading of) is sticking with stock size tires, except for "maybe", a set of 265/75/16's?! Even with that size tire, I'm reading, you'd need "some" lift to prevent rubbing! As you know, most Tundra owners say that going with this size tire on "stock" suspension, will work. That maybe true for AC models, but not DC models! Most of the TS.com, DC owners I've spoken to, are saying the mud guards are STILL rubbing, even with the 265/75/16's and no lift!

It's a "crap-shoot" almost, trying to guess what's right BEFORE you plunk down the $$$ for any suspension mod?! Especially, if you plan to go with a larger tire!!

Dave

Cool Re: Front mudflaps with lift/ bigger tires

I have a 2007 Tacoma, TRD Off Road, w/a 3" Toytec lift. I am running 265/75R16 and I still have some rubbing. I beleive that it is not so much the tire size as the further pushed out the offset of the after market rim. I would like to know more about pushing back the mudflaps.
I trimmed a little on, but they stick out inside the wheel well. Any suggestions?
