Cat. Converter Noise?

My 2003 extended cab has always made what seemed like a lot of metallic cooling off noise when I shut the engine off - but I've recently noticed a similar noise when stopped and idling. The noise seems to be coming from the catalytic converter cover area. Anyone else had this noise?
