I have an 04 Tundra DC with 9000 miles. Usually once or twice a day it will emit a funky odor from the a\c vents. Contacted a service rep today who said it may be a buildup of bacteria\mold. He stated they have a method of disolving this and flushing the system. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I actually have the same issue. It happens when I turn the A/C off and leave the fan running after the fact. I can't imagine that it has to do with mold or bacteria. Keep this post going with any info that you find out from your dealer. I would love to fix it or least find an answer.
Yes, this does have something to do with a mold/bacteria buildup, lots of cars have this problem, my 00 Tundra, 00 Ford Zx2, 90 Crown Vic. The trick is to run the fan with the switch set on fresh air, not recirc, for a couple minutes before you shut the truck off. If you dont want to do this then you need to take some Lysol or other type of disenfectant and spray it into the cowl vent with the fresh air on so that it draws it into the system to kill the mold. We have it happen often out here in AZ.

I agree. Make sure you run it on fresh air before you park it to help dry out the system. I used Lysol anti bacterial to disinfect mine and it worked well. Just put it on fresh air with the fan on High and spray in the grates in front of your windshield.

I was thinking about using Lysol too, but I was worried it would cause discoloration with the black plastic vent grill. Before I do it, will Lysol cause discoloration???? I was going to try to swap the can tips with something that has a tube, but if it's safe for the black plastic, then I just blast it thru.
I used the tube and tip from another spray can so I do not know about the discoloration but I would use the tube because I was able to spray in the exact location I wanted and not just thru the grate.
