PM one of the Mods to ask them. It should go in the "How To" area.

It seems to work with no problems opening and closing. I don't know if this is a long term solution but if one of the tie straps brakes it will take about two minutes to fix it again. I guess this fix would depend on where your latch broke.
I couldn't figure out how you "fixed" it with zip ties. Then I saw the picture. Very impressive!! That is a great case of serious ingenuity!!! When closed I bet you can’t even tell its fixed with ties. Definitely needs to be put in the “how to” area. Even for those who want to fix it with new parts – this is a great quick fix till you can get to the dealer.

Good job,
TIM

Why won't Toyota admit to the problem, and fix it?

Anyone know where to get the plastic clip mentioned above? Is there a part # or do I need to hit the local bone yards?

You have to buy the whole assembly. I just cut corners and only used the plastic part that broke instead of having to deal with taking the door panel off. I found one on ebay.

Default Make em out of metal, then they never break! I did.

Like many of you I had both my original latches replaced under warranty despite the fact that I rarely opened those windows, becase the cheap plastic link cracked, and the replacement links started cracking in the same place a year later.

I am very disappointed to learn that they haven't improved the parts, and that they only sell them as part of a very expensive latch assemble. Shame on Toyota.

Not about to spend the money for new ones, I got some small pieces of aluminum and made a pair of replacement ones that should never break. I used the broken ones as a guide and used a die grinder with a carbide bit to do the final shaping. They look and work just like the original ones, and only look different becase I left them bright aluminum instead of painting them black.

Final cost to me, about 1/2 hour of my time, and $0.50 cents worth of aluminum.

Wow that is almost as good as my zip tie idea!

I kind of hope my metal links last a bit longer than your zip tie solution, and are a little more secure. If I was on the road without a drill and a file, I wouldn't hesitate to use Zip Ties, but not when I'm at home and have the time to do something more permanent.

I was wondering if I could just order the new and improved TSB parts myself and do my own fix. It isn't worth it to leave it at the dealer for just a window latch. Is this an easy fix? Anybody else tried? Is this sort of thing covered under the Extended Platnium Warranty from Toyota? Thanks for the help.
Check out this new link:Access cab window latches
It looks like we have a TS member/machinist who is going to fab up a bunch of the latch parts in metal (aluminum I assume).
No idea what our cost will be yet.
In the mean time, I've done the zip-tie fix.

I tied one strap around the plastic latch and the metal pin to hold what was left of the latch on the pin and then tied another around the middle of the latch to hold the other tie strap in place. It was really a cheap fix and took all of two minutes to do. Let me know if I need to post pics.
Genius, pure bloody genius! Thanks, I owe you a beer for each of the two latches I was going to replace!

Thank GOD i found this thread. My sisters rear latch on her Tundra was damaged after an attempted break-in to her truck. LUckly nothing was stolen but we were stuck with a $200 plus repair from our Local Toyota Dealer.

Now my latch snapped on me completely on my rear access window on the driver side. Completely caught me off guard and thought it was a fluke that it happened. Though now it seems that its almost a common failure in the Tundra. Initially i was worried that it would run me a few hundred dollars to fix it at the dealer.

So i take it the average price for replacement parts would run about $35 from a Toyota dealership? Might as well make it a do-it yourself project since some of ya only spent a few minutes to replace it.

Or you could get into the group buy and get these! Zip ties keep your window from flying open but wont keep a burglar out.
