    Default Tundra Caps

I'm sure several TS members have added caps to their trucks. Would love to hear any recommendations/suggestions on brands and styles. I have a 02 SR5 w/ access cab. Just had the line x liner put in last week. Ready for the cap now.

    Thanks

    Default cap

I just put an A.R.E. Z series cap on my 2002 SR5. It looks great. I also looked at the Leer but liked the A.R.E. much better.

I have an A.R.E. as well, but it's the MX (above the cab) model. It's great for hauling larger items, and it usually gets packed full when we're going hunting. I've also slept in it with my 6 year old and it worked out great.

The color match is excellent and so far it has held up very well (2+years). There were a couple of minor issues up front (wrong rear window style), but they were addressed without a problem.

    Hey guys:

I have the Leer 100xlt, the one with the one-piece bend out side glass. It looks very clean and I have not had any problems so far.

I have confidence in my shell dealer that they will take care of me if something comes up.

I am not familiar with the other brand, maybe its regional, in So Cal. we pretty much have only Snug Top and Leer (Stockland went out of business).
Mods:Hellwig anti-sway bar, clear front side marker lights, clear/red/clear rear tail lights w/chrome trim and led blinker, billit grill w/hidden badge, painted front bumper valances, 4Runner 5 spoke wheels, Leer 100xlt shell w/carpet kit, most badges removed, custom Fundra badge on rear, additional reverse lights, gauge trim painted white, custom shifter knob (on the floor), billit radiator and oil caps, comp/temp mirror, map light, charging outlet, back seat tilt, and door & ignition buzzer mods

Yitbos, make sure you check out My Photos as there is a category strictly for caps, covers, etc. This may give you an idea of what some of the various caps on our mighty Tundra look like!

I went with the A.R.E. Z Top and am very happy with it so far, GREAT FIT ! I would suggest the battery operated light vs. the 12 volt and the clothes rack as options to consider.

I put a Snugtop Hiliner on my 2002 last fall, but had problems with leaks around the side windows. The dealer was reluctant to admit a problem, but with pressure sent it back the factory for repair. It came back from the factory with worse leaking than it had before. I finally fixed the leaks myself at my own time & expense. Now I am noticing the paint is chipping and peeling in places, but based on my last experience with factory repair I am not certain I want to send it back again. The overall quality is far inferior to the quality of the truck it is sitting on. Too bad because I really like the basic design of the top.

Safe to say I will not buy a Snugtop again.

I am on my second SnugTop Highliner and haven't had any problems with either of them. I had the first one sandblasted in a sandstorm and w/ insurance money got another one and e-bayed the blasted one. I think the overall quality is excellent and only had a small leak problem w/the boot that I had to personally fix on both of them with a little silicone, but then again, I had the same problem w/my Stockland and all it took was a little silicone. The SnugTop has lifetime guarantee on the paint, and I would send it back and insist that they give you another paint job!!!! Did you have leaks with the regular side windows or did you get the flush windows with the pop-out rear sections? I have the traditional slider side windows.

    Thumbs up Camper Shell

    Yitbos,
I went to ARE and got a Z-Series shell. Sweet! Had more comments on how it looks on my 2001 Tundra. Paint matches exactly and came with a small container of the paint batch. Have always owned Sportsman but since Snugtop bought them out, they're not the same. I got the 12 volt and wired strait from the battery w/ 14 ga. wire and 10 amp in line fuse.

My pictures has a photo of mine in Pearl Stellar Blue. Cost $1235.00 installed. I'm happy.
    Kev.
