Default Finding your paint code

You can locate your exact paint code very easily. Inside the driver's door jam is a white label. Look for C/TR (color trim). Your paint code will be listed here. It will start with the number 3.

Default My opinion: skip it

I bought pen touch-up for my wife's Highlander (one color, one clear coat) because I thought it was a great idea for controlling where the paint is applied. First of all, it's the kind of pen where you push the tip in to feed the paint, and this takes a lot of practice to get just the right amount (it tends to come out way too fast/too much, or not at all).

Secondly, when I attempted to apply the clear coat, the extra friction that the felt tip has over a brush seemed to pull the new paint back off (and yes, I let it dry for plenty long - the clear coat and paint must use the same solvent).

You run into the same problem if you are trying to build up to the level of the surrounding paint with several coats. Now I long for the brush, and that's what I'll get for my Tacoma.

Default Problem with Pen

Sorry you had a problem. First, a clear coat pen is not needed. The way the paint is made, it comes out with a sheen.
If you provide me with the dealer you purchased the pen from, the date and the paint code, I will send you a new pen at no charge. I am not sure why you had a problem with the original pen until I receive it back for testing. It could have been defective. This is a very easy product to use, so we would love it you would give it another try. You can email me directly with your shipping info and the dealer, date and paint code and your new pen will be made tomorrow and shipped as well.

Sincerely,

Wendy E

Now THAT'S customer service! Great to see.

Since you spoke up here Wendy, how big of an area can you reasonably repair with these pens?

Default Coverage

The best size to use touch up paint on is the size of a quarter, after that, it just does not look good. If you "color in" the spot, kind of like using a crayon and coloring something in, it will look good.

Thumbs down Paint Pen

My 2 cents.
I purchased the paint pens for both my Tundra and Maxima. I wasn't impressed. I went back to using a brush. It was just easier controlling the amount of paint applied using the touch up brush versus the pen.

You could always get touch up paint from the dealer and follow the application with a Langka kit to remove the "blob" and blend the touch-up in. I have used this method with quite a bit of success. I know Mother's made one kit and I know a kit is available HERE . Use coupon code "detailcity" for 10% off if it's something that interests you.

If this is not your taste, you could always touch up and learn how to wetsand and use the rotary.

Default Auto Sharp Pen

I finally got the Auto Sharp Pen for my 05 Sequoia Bluesteel Metallic and one for my wifes Black PT 04 Cruiser. I have used many paint touch up pens and brushes and this was the best.....

At first it...I had to get to use to using the gently push on the pen. I accidently pushed to hard and the paint came out running on my front bumper (hit by flying rocks on the highway) and I grabbed the closest rag to clean up the mess. But, there was some paint residue...however after rubbing the residue with WD 40 it came off...it also helped that I just finished putting on its 3rd coat of wax...my Sequoia is only 2 weeks old. Anyway, I reapplied the sharp pen first pushing on a card board to get the paint started on the tip and applyed it to the bumper....it looks great....

I did my wife's car and she was so happy..she couldnt see where the scratches were from the carts and rocks that hit.

I agree, I got mine this week and peformed some touch up work... it provides an exceptional degree of control -- much better than a standard brush. I would highly recommend this product

Unhappy

My brother just dinged up the back of my Tundra when he was trying to take off the tonneau cover. Seeing it happen was like someone stabbing a steak into my chest. I'm so upset at it, that I'm going to buy one of those Autovisuals Paint Pens tonight. Hope it turns out alright.

Default Buff, buff, buff!

We always want to sell our product, however, I must tell you that many times scratches like you received are just under the surface. Meaning, if you bring it to a good detailer, they may be able to buff them out. Tell them to cut and glaze it.

If the scratches are a little deeper, there is a process called melting. This is where you use a high speed buffer and melt the scratch into the clear coat. You will need to find a very experienced detailer to do this, not everyone knows about it. If you are in the Los Angeles area, Martin Cadillic has the best professional detailers I have ever seen.

If you don't have to put paint on your truck, don't. Once the detailer has removed all the scratches he can, you will see what is left to touch up.

Hope this gives you some direction as to how to move forward.

I also have the same opinion. Get one with a brush since is a tad bit cheaper and you are able to use it more effectively.
