This is a discussion thread titled "Tacoma: 05 Overhead Console Removal", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Does anyone know the exact steps for the removal of the overhead console on a 2005 DC Sport (this console has the eyeglass case, vanity lights and compass/temp gage)? I need to remove it so I can hardwire a radar detector and don't want to just start prying and actually break something.
Thanks in advance.

Search for posts on installing the EC(auto dimming mirror), I believe there might be a pdf file in the knowlegebase forums for the mirror. It will have instructions on removing the overhead console. OR, pm me with your Email address and I'll send it to you.
PS. I hardwired my radar det w/o removing the console, just ran the wire inside the headliner(removed the sunvisor) & down the A-pillar to the fuse box.

I just figured I should be able to get switched 12v power for my radar detector from either the temp/compass or the auto-dimming mirror wiring harness rather than having to run wires all the way down to the underdash...
Is this a bad idea for some reason?

Not really, I just went to the fusebox for power so I could use the in-line fuse on the radar det wiring harness and be able to change that fuse, if necessary, without removing any interior parts.

I completed the installation of my Valentine 1 radar detector today - it was simple now that I know how to remove that overhead console. Just spliced into the auto dimming mirror wire - nice source of switched 12V and it saved me from having to run wire all the way to the fusebox. Thanks for your help!
