Hidden compartment in '05 DC Console missing? (TBM)
I have a 2000 AC and one of the things that I loved on my dad's '04 stepside was the little "hidden" compartment in the center console sort of under the ashtray (only with captain's chairs of course). However, when I went shopping for an '05 doublecab I noticed that the area is still there, but there is no lever or opening mechanism. Anyone know if this can be retrofitted? Thanks.

Can anyone here post up an interior shot of their '05 center console area? I can't recall what it looks like. The way mine is set up ('03), there's a little release button at the base of the compartment and it's easy to pull up. There is a lot of room underneath this area, too. I don't know why Toyota would want to do away with this area...
The only reason I can think of is the whole "hiding something from the cops" approach. Not really sure why they did away with it. If anyone knows, feel free to chime in.

I've got an '04 DC, and I know that hidden compartment you're talking about. It isn't on the Double Cab, not in '04, anyway; and I doubt they changed it for '05.
On the DC, there are HVAC ducts that run under the console to feed the foot and B-pillar air vents for the rear seat. They run right under that little flat spot, in front of the cup holders - which is where the hidden compartment is.
Open up the lower console (the one that holds your CDs and what not) and put your hands on the piece between the cup holder and the CD area. Now pull straight up. There's only some clips holding it in there - no bolts or screws or anything. You'll see what I mean.
I think for the DC with the rear seat entertainment setup, the 110v inverter is down in there somewhere, too.
