Default Tundra DC Tie Downs

Has anyone found tie downs that fit the 2005 Double Cab? I tried Putco, which didn't fit (although the seller web site didn't warn that they don't fit Tundras). I then tried the Tundra-specific Bull Rings, which also didn't fit -- I talked to the manufacturer, who said the DC rails were so poorly designed they will not accomodate any tie downs on the market.

Has anybody successfully installed tiedowns by Smittybuilt or others?

I used a VersaTrack from Mac's Custom Tie Downs: http://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/Scripts/default.asp along the rails and bed bolts: http://www.bedbolts.net/ in the base of the bed in each corner and 2 down the middle. I have a few pictures of this installed in my '04 DC here: http://68.2.20.72:8080/Tundra/Tie%20Downs/frame.html

Best of luck,

Chip

Default clinthic, got a couple of questions for ya'...

Hey clinthic,

I took a look at your photos and I must admit, this "really" looks like a very sound investment. That said, I have a couple of questions for you...

1st: Did you have to "drill" for the placement of the bed bolt tie downs? And... in conjuction with that question... did you have your bedliner sprayed in "before" or "after" these bed bolt tie downs were installed?
2nd: From looking at your photos again, I'm "assuming" you had to remove the stock plastic bedrail caps and then replace them, with the stainless steel bedrail cap/tie downs. Am I right on this?

As I said, this REALLY looks like a VERY "smart" application, and well thought-out.

,
Dave

btw: if you don't mind my asking, what did the entire set-up cost.

Nice to see more positive press on our products. We still make our tie down rails here in the US, meaning we can get a custom application for virtually any truck bed.

The current price on a long bed kit is $145 + shipping.

Macs Custom Tie Downs - Truck Tie Down Kit - Full Size LB Chevy/Dodge/Ford

If you bolt the track to your frame rails, it is strong enough to lift the truck!

Give us a call if you have any questions. We are happy to help!

I found a way to put 1/4" eye bolts on my rails. I don't know the name of these but they are used by industrial electricians. Basically they are a retangular piece of metal with a spring welded to them. You just screw a 1/4 eye bolt into them and insert them in the rail and twist. The spring holds the piece in place until you tighten the eyebolt which tightens it against the rail and the bolt tightens against the back of the rail. i will try to post some pictues tomorrow. you cold also drill and tap them to a larger size if needed.

I just bought the Core Trax tie down system from Costco for $80 and I am very pleased with it.

I posted some pics and info. in this thread.
