Default Side Curtain Aribags

I have a 2005 Tundra DC with side curtain airbags. Are there airbags in the backs of the seats or the doors? I see where they are on the side pillars, but wasn't sure where else they were. Reason I ask is because I would like to add leather.

Default On the side of the seats

Pretty sure they are on the side of the seats also-mine have a small tag there.

Not to hijack your thread-
I was wondering what happens when they go off when you are using seat covers? The sticker on the inside of the door says to only use genuine seatcovers??

Thanks
Tim

Don't know if the 04's are the same as the 05's but in the 05's, the "side curtain airbags" add several components. First there is a shoulder air bag in the seats. This air bag erupts from the front-outboard seat seam (forward facing) near the shoulder - where the "air bag" tag is as mentioned in another post. This bag is to dampen your shoulder collision with the door. Second, the side curtain erupts from the margin of the headliner - it is a full curtain extending the entire length of the cab windows (front and back). In other words there is one curtain per side, not one front and one back. This curtain extends approximately 3/4 down the window glass when extended. There is no actual bag in the side pillars - just the SRS stamped logo on the front pillar (next to the windsheild) and in the pillar behind the passenger door. In trucks without the SRS these locations in the pillars are filled with a plastic plug that is not finished off very well (lloks like a cheap plastic cut and fill plug, oval in shape, about 2" across the long axis). It is important to note that both of these systems DO NOT rely on the passenger weight sensor and only deploy in a side impact of sufficent magnitude - they will not likely deploy in a roll over as the inertial sensors will not be tripped.

Hope this helps.

Thanks...That answers my question. Basically if I want to add leather I will need to take into consideration the airbags in the front seat.

I also found out that the leather for Tundra with the Side curtain airbags is different than for the ones without. Something to do with the threading.

I believe with the leather option, the shoulder bag mounted in the seat is NOT included. I was told this was because the stitching/structure of the leather wouldn't allow for the bag to break through and deploy correctly. Not sure if this is true or just another dealer story, but since I wasn't interested in the leather option I didn't pursue it further. The actual side curtain which deploys from the headliner seam should be identical with or without the leather option. FYI, I was able to get more information about the air bags in the Sequoia than the Tundra DC, but they ARE identical, so you may want to look there for info first. Please keep us posted on anything you find out.

I talked with Auto Leather Inc. and they say you can get leather with the side curtain airbags. They sell leather kits to Toyota Dealers in the Southeast and he says the leather for the ones with side curtain airbags has special threading in the seats to allow the airbags to properly deploy.

He said he would have some of the kits in in a couple of weeks. He currently has a kit for the a DC without side airbags on ebay pretty cheap if anybody is interested.
