Default Wiper blades?

Are the ones sold by Toyota any better than those typically sold by WalMart or any basic parts dealer?

Nope. Any name brand will be good.

I went a 2" longer than stock wiper on the passenger side. Kept the driver side @ stock length.

Pfffft, after paying $238 CDN for ONE keyfob, I'm gonna go aftermarket anything I can.

Ordered vent shades off of ebay for $60, dealer wanted $160 (and it wasn't even the inchannel ones).

Why buy the whole blade? You can just buy the refills at the dealership for less than $5 CAD.

Also, there are lots of toyota remotes on ebay for real cheap ($20-30).

Hey Thai - I feel your pain. I see in your profile you are in KW area - Ancaster for me.

Good news - just hop across to:

Fuccillo Toyota
1974 Alvin Road
Grand Island, NY 14072
Phone: (716) 773-7505

OR:

Northtown Toyota
1135 Millersport Highway
Amherst, NY 14226
Phone: (716) 836-4600
Fax: (716) 614-3813

Make a day of it - enjoy some Northwestern NY hospitality! (and bring a snow shovel for lake effect snow squalls ;-)
======================

I've dealt with both, regular consumables are FAR cheaper even w/ exchange. More exotic parts are A: available, B: affordable. They even have - gasp - aftermarket accessories at the dealerships!!!!

Oh - and the dealers IMO are FAR friendlier than the KW ones - Guelph as well for that matter (again IMO)

Cheers,
Paul

Do a search on wiper blades as we had some discussions. Years back Consumer Reports did a wiper blade test. They rated the factory Toyota blades the best. They also pretty much stated that the aftermarkets had 6 months quality life at best. I switched back too factory blades on my Corolla after MANY different aftermarket sets over the years They do perform better. Added bonus is that the driver side has a a plastic spoiler deal that helps to keep the blade against the glass at speed. I bought one for the Sequoia also. Factory blade is 19" the Corolla one is listed as 20" (19.75 actual) Sorry no part # on the blade but if you ask for a new drivers side blade for a 1993 Corolla you will see what I mean. From there the replacement inserts are pretty cheap (c500 is the size listed).

I've always get refills to save money.

Toyota OEM is no better than Trico Exact-Fit or Anco refills. They all last 6-12 months on the Tundra.

On my cab-over commercial truck with a nearly verticle windshield, the refills will last no more than 6 month before streaking or hopping.

However, I've last tried Napa teflon refills. They seem to wiper better than than other brands.

My dad just gave me an article on "beam" blades that are starting to come on many new vehicles. The usual "latest, greatest" type stuff. Be interesting to try. They look kinda wierd though. http://www.tricoproducts.com/brochur...location_id=65

I have had good results with the PIAA silicone wipers. After using them for over a year I will never go back to traditional type ones.

Looks very promising except no mention of better contact material (silicon or Teflon instead of rubber). Perhaps, Trico will come out with higher grade products later.

Wipers just like the Trico Innovision are standard equipment of new VWs. They work well. The VW version can have an unauthorized refill used to replace the rubber edge when needed.

I've tried the Valeo blades. OK, but nothing special. Ditto for the Anco HYDROCLEAR...OK but not worth any extra price.

I heard that the PIAA blades left a "film" or residue on the windshield that can reak havock when driving into the sun. Another TS member posted the info, not sure who. IS that true?

I'm using triple edge. Been using it for a long before my tundra. They coat the windshield as it wipes and rain/water just rolls off. Sure your regular rubber blades will wipe cleaner in some circumstances, but when it pours, SEE YA. I really don't use my wipers unless it's moderate to heavy rain. That's how good silicone blades like triple edge does. IMO, PIAA is basically a copy of triple edge.
