Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Just got my '05, I need advice please.", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just bought a Black '05 4x4 Access cab and I want to do two things for starters:
First, I'd like to get a Rhino liner sprayed into the bed. Do they mask the bolts that hold the bed in, or spray over them? How much should it cost me to get a liner sprayed in?
Second, I'd like to get running boards, since my kids are small, it's hard for them to get in the truck. What are the best running boards/side steps, are they easy to install yourself, and how much should they cost?
Thanks in advance to anyone that replies, this is my first Toyota and my first pickup. I really love this truck!!!
I got Bully Nerf Bars, check the pictures in Gallery... even though they are not great.....(too much Salt here in New England in March....)
My 8 year old daughter can easily make the climb into the truck, she used to have to struggle, pulling on the seatbelt holder, really fighting - but enjoying, the climb in. Now she can climb in with no hands if she "leans in" as she climbs.
Got mine shipped for $229 from t-rex motor sports- great oufit, cheapest price I could find, and shipped free and quick... took about 10 minutes per side to install, using the box it shipped in to keep the bars (and me) from getting scratched up on the driveway. I mounted both the brackets loosely on the bars, then placed the bolts on the frame, put up the front then the back of the bar, then tightened it all up, easy and looks like great.

The rhino work depends on who does it. The place I went to asked me what I wanted to do, and I had them remove the cargo tie downs, but spray over the bed bolts. I paid around $370 for my AC 5 years ago.
Best boards are subjective as to style and such, look for ones that attach to the frame for the most sturdy. I personally would avoid ones that attach to the body.

Well, I went with Line-X but from my understanding some Rhino Dealers will remove the bots. I would highly suggest this. There was a member on here who got rear ended and it was a pain in the arse to remove his bed for repair cause the bolts were sprayed over! If you are not dead set on Rhino, search this forum to get an idea of the difference between the different liner. User 123Gone is a Line-X dealer on here but he knows his stuff about all different liners. He knows the different materials, applications, warranties, etc... He is not out to make any money off you so he tells it like it is. It would be in your best interest to PM him about any questions you might have. I went with Line-X because I liked the texture and the hardness compared to Rhino. I also like the nationwide warranty since I am in the Military. I can go to any Line-X dealer for repairs, Rhino you have to go back to the same place, if they are still in bussiness. The place I got my Line-X sprayed through is out of business but I can still go to Line-X to get warranty work done. That is security to me. I paid $425 UTR, that includes the UV protection.

I have the factory running boards. They attach to the body but I am here to tell you, they are sturdy as heck! They work great with the kids. My three year old gets in on his own! My 6 and 8 YO get in fine too! Cost? I don't know. Installation, you can look it up here if you are a subcribing member. If you are not a subscribing member, it is well worth the money. I subscribed for a year then had to fork out more $ for the lifetime membership. If you can afford it go straight for the lifetime! Congrats on the ride and wecome aboard! Chime in on the "Midwest" Forum too! Tally one up for your state!

I Have had both rino and Line X. I would recommend Line X over Rino anyday. much better material and lasts much longer. If you ask the Line X dealer they will remove the bed bolts also remove the bolts for the tailgate assembly also. It only takes a few minutes and can save you time down the road. I would recommend against the Rino product IMO.
I just traded in an 04 Tacoma DoubleCab for my 05 Tundra and on the Tacoma I used ''Bully'' brand that I got from JCWhitney that mounted to the cabmount bolts and were very sturdy. Also go to www.checkerpro.com,it's slow to download but they offer tonneau covers ,their own bedrugs and bedmats .They are well made and priced right.I will be ordering from them soon.
I got my line-x spread yesterday in Bedlinersplus irvine CA. They didn't take off the bolts, but he said he covered them up with with some cover, and can be taken off for the future by cutting it out. but they took the screw and cargo tie down out. it's 488.56 with tax and Endra UV top coat to protect the bed.
Welcome To The Club Fellow Hoosier! I Have A Friend From Your Area Who Tried The Rhino Liner And Was Not Happy With The Application On His 2000 Tundra. It Takes Too Long To Cure And Had Trouble With The Product Peeling. I Have Line-x On My Truck And I'm Very Satisfied. It Cures In 3 To 5 Seconds Because It's Applied With High Pressure And At A Much Higher Temperature Than The Rhino Liner. Retail In Southern Indiana Is Around $409.00 Plus Tax, But If You Contact Line-x Of Evansville, In And Mention My Name (pm Me For My Name) He Might Sell It To You For $375.00 Plus Tax. I'm Sure You Know That Evansville Is About A Two Hour Drive From Bloomington. I Don't Get Any Referral Checks From This Guy So Don't Feel Pressured. I Just Believe In Rewarding Companies That Do Excellent Work By Spreading The Word.
Now About Side Steps. I Went With The Black Westin Oval Side Steps. They Are Made Of Aluminum Which Makes Them Lighter Than The Steel Side Steps And They Mount To The Frame. My 7 And 8 Year Old Kids Approved. They Cost Around $400.00, But Are Worth It. You Can See What They Look Like On My Double Cab In The Members' Photo Gallery.
Let Me Know If You Have Any Questions. Enjoy Your Truck!
I bought a set of Toyota running boards on ebay for about $450. Not that hard to install, match the paint exactly, fit is very tight and they will protect the paint on the truck sides.
Word of advice, from one Dave to another.... . PLEASE take the time to RESEARCH, your choice of bedliner, as well as other brands, BEFORE you make a final decision!!! I'd REALLY hate to see you make a "possible" mistake, before you know ALL the facts, about ALL spray-in bedliners... NO MATTER WHAT THE BRAND!!!
I was VERY lucky (actually "blessed" is more like it) in that, when I had my bed sprayed, I had two buddies, who owned their own spray-in bedliner businesses. So, that said, no matter "which" one I chose, I was certainly gonna' get the VERY BEST PRICE.
Then I can here, and got into a thread about nothing "but" spray-in bedliners. As it was, I was VERY close to having made my decision, as to which "brand" I was gonna' use. Anyway, after SEVERAL back-n-forth post with 123Gone, who (by the way) owns his own LINE-X business, down in Texas, I began to see a WHOLE DIFFERENT picture. Warranty became a VERY BIG ISSUE for me, as I could NEVER seem to get one of my buddies, to ever comment, to giving me the warranty info, which I had requested from him on SEVERAL occasions! As a matter of fact, I honestly think he was kinda' "dodging" the issue, in having to give me that information. I later found out "why", as his warranty was ONLY good through the "application dealer" and NOT nationwide! On the other hand, my buddy who owns the LINE-X franchise, was quick and up-front with me, on ALL warranty issues. Armed with that knowledge, I rather quickly changed my mind and went with LINE-X. Fact is... LINE-X has THE BEST warranty in the business!... IMHO
I would suggest, that you PM TS.com member (123Gone) and simply pick his brain. I'll guarrantee you, that he'll answer ANY and ALL of your questions, NO MATTER WHAT THE BRAND. After all, he HAS to stay on top of this, considering there is competition out there, including Rhino. He'll be honest with you and he WILL NOT try to "sway" you, unless he sees where you're "misinformed" about ANYTHING regarding ALL spray-in bedliner issues.
Give him a shout. I promise, you won't be sorry that you did... !
Dave

When it comes to bedliners, I decided on Line-X for a couple of reasons. One of them was their highly regarded, and excellent warranty. I'm big on warranties. I've learned from experience the hard way that they can pay for themselves, such as with electronics devices and other products (<cough> Chevy S-10 <cough>).
Another reason is their - as better described by the resident expert of the product 123Gone - combinations of chemical components. Rhinolinings is a polyurethane based product applied at low temperatures and at low pressure. If I remember right (which is prone to be incorrect in my current sick & sleep deprived state) is stable but can potentially leave air bubbles in the mix. Plus, from experience with my polyurethane/rubber mat in my truck trying to load things into the bed is harder, but items don't slide around as much. Please, would our resident and respected expert who knows more (about what the bleep he is talking about) please chime in? 123Gone, come on!
