This is a discussion thread titled "Need DECENT Hood Protector", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I had one that I bought from JCW but it was junk, created "hard air" In other words my windshield cleaner no longer worked over 35 mph didn't want to spend $180 for a direct factory. Does anyone know of a protector that DOES NOT create "hard air"? PLease HELP! Thx TRT
The OEM one is excellent, very form fitting & a great mounting system. No problems with the wipers & it's solid up to 100 mph...oops. You don't have to pay 180.00 either, toyotapart.com has it for 140.00 & I've seen them on ebay for about 100.00.
I have the "Form Fit". It clamps between the grill and the hood and covers the area on both sides of the grill. Works great, wipers work fine. Only comes in dark smoke. $65. at your local dealer or they can order it. The "Toyota" protector dosent cover as much and costs a lot more. DL

Is this the same "Form Fit" that slips out of place, and sometimes comes off in the car wash?
I'm also looking for a good one at a reasonable price, but I want one that is also problem/maintenance free.
TMR; Car wash?? Never! Hand wash only, unless you like scratches from the brushes. Mine has never moved. I guess it depends on how tight you tighten the nuts on the backside of your grill.
They first appeared making black outs for mustang lights. When I was looking for mine it was August of 2000. At that time there were the GTS and the Factory bug guards. I went with the GTS because it was $70 rather than the factory at $140.
You can find them at off-road shops. Some street shops might have them but I dont go in there too often to know for sure.
