This is a discussion thread titled "Locking Gas Cap Part Number from Stant", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
They now show part number 10509 for the 03 Tundra. I know that many of us have run the Stant 11506 for many years on the 03s and up with no problems. I just happen to run across the Stant website and decided to check and see if they ever actually had made on official application for the 03 and up Tundras and they now do. I am hesitant about switching from my 11506 to this 10509. I have had zero problems since I installed the 11506 back in November of 02 when I got my truck and no CEL. Has anyone used the new 10509, could it be the same cap only for specific applications. Thanks

I've been using it on my 04 DC for over 6 months with no trouble. I don't know what the differences are between the 03 and 04 Tundras. If you haven't had a problem, why do you want to switch?

Yeah good point, guess I should just leave it alone. You are using the 10509 is that correct. And there should be no differences between the 03 and 04 that I could see. Thanks

Where is the website, and how much does this bad boy cost? I can see people eyeing my truck more and more as a "gas tanker" as gas prices get higher and higher.
Plus, if I can get a locking gas cap that doesn't trip the CEL, I'll be doing a Dance of Joy! I asked the parts department at Desert Toyota about one last I was in and they weren't aware of one. They had some on sale, but just basic cheap ones they didn't advise getting for my truck.

Well I have been running the 11506 for well over 2 years with no CEL but there is an official number for the Tundra now and it is 10509 at www.stant.com. I would be willing to bet they are the exact same cap. It is about 11 bucks with 5 or 6 for shipping, about 17 dollars total.

Somebody siphoned gas out of my truck last night. They took about 15 gallons and I'm looking for a locking gas cap now and I haven't found any part numbers here on TS for Stant other than the 11506 number that people have been using with their 03's. Can anyone confirm that this part number will work with the 2005 Tundras?

I called Stant today and they told me the part number is either 11509 or 10509 depending on where you are getting it from. Apparently Pep Boys has a different number than let's say Track Auto. I have it on the truck now and I'll post if I have any issues with it. So far no CEL.

I have the 11509. The company told me that the 11509 is shrink-packaged and the 10509 is in a box.
My check engine light keeps coming on with it. I put my original cap back on and the light goes off after I drive the truck 3 times. I am going to email Stant to see what they say. Maybe it is defective. Maybe I should just get a 11506 instead.

I've had part #11509 on for three weeks now and all is well. I haven't had any issues at all. I would do as you suggest and call Stant. It sounds like it's defective. Good Luck.

I can't believe Toyota STILL hasn't brought out a locking gas cap!! Or at least the locking fuel door that the earliest models had!
COME ON TOYOTA! Don't make us go through the muddy aftermarket waters for such essentialy, basic equipment.
I have had ZERO problems with the Stant 11506 available at my local Auto Zone/Advance Auto parts on my '03 Tundra. Works great. Supposedly it was made for GM trucks/suburbans.
Stant sent me another fuel cap (10509) since the store bought one kept triping the check engine light. This one was lab tested prior to sending it to me. It still trips the check engine light. Is there anyone else who manufactures locking fuel caps? My factory cap clears the check engine light after 3 drives. If I cannot find another manufactuer, I might buy the GM type 10506. $15 for another locking cap that might work is cheaper than 1/2 a tank of gas.
Purchased an '06 double cab 2x4 last week (love it!). Went in yesterday to their parts dept. and was told I can't put a locking gas cap on because it will make the check engine light go on. Sounds like the 10509 is worth a try. Thanks for the info.
