Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Sneak pics of my custom leather install", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
To date Ive added 22" wheels, clear corners, custom black/gray leather interior, carputer w/ touchscreen LCD, tonneau cover, custom sub/stereo system, car alarm w/ remote start, altezza tail lights, and debadged!
Next comes the fun stuff.. 1.5"/2.5" lowering kit (on its way!), headers and exhaust ($$$$ saving up for it), sway bar, painted brake drums and maybe an upgraded brake kit.
The touchscreen LCD is being fiberglassed into the dash next weekend (in place of the current radio), and the radio is being moved down below the ashtray area in a custom console. The carputer runs Windows Media Center 2005 and its a 1ghz CPU, 60GB HD, DVD+RW, 5.1 sound card, 512MB ram. Im using a remote control so people can control the PC if they dont want to use the touchscreen. I have my CD collection (about 62cd's) stored on the PC so far and about 45 music videos.
I asked my dealer who does all their leather work and he gave me a # to a guy called Freddie Louis.. turns out Freddie is a classic soft trim authorized dealer/installer. Anyway, he charged me what he charges Toyota plus $50 extra for the different colored centers and door inserts. He gave me a 3year/36k warranty just like I would get from Toyota. I wanted the Toyota emblem in engraved in the seats but he said that it wasnt legal anymore and the best he could do was TRD or something custom. he advised againstcustom stuff though because it might hurt trade in value.
In the end I went with toyota gray base with black centers and black door inserts. I reversed the stitching so the gray stitching is black and vice versa. For the $950+ tax Im a happy guy. I realize the cost of the kit was closer to $550-600, but it took them 6 hours to get it in, so the labor fee was worth it.

Man that looks sweet...I assume that its leather seating surfaces only...not side panels? I would like to get mine done in all leather...i hate vinyl.
I wonder why its not "legal" to put the toyota emblem on your seat, but its legal to put "TRD" on it...still looks great...wish i could scratch and sniff too...does it smell as good as it looks?
i would assume its illegal because the use of a trademark by anyone other than the proprietor is illegal.
The back, sides, and panels are also all leather (I asked the same question). If its not leather, it damn sure feels, and smells like it. Im holding off on adding more pics because I cant open the door w/o getting pollen all over everything.. here is a pic to give you an idea of how bad the pollen is after leaving my door open for 30min..

It is illegal because the installer would be making a profit by having to charge you. If he just did it for free then there would be no issue. If he paid a royalty to Toyota then there would also be no issue, they would license him to do so.
Holy crap! thats some wicked pollen...I use a high-power air blower from my shop and blow off the dash before i vaccuum the truck. you might want to blast out your a/c vents too. I usually do this by putting it on fresh air inlet, no A/C and turn it on high for a few seconds...i can see all the dust flying outta the vents.
Seats do look great though
