Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "TACOMA: Finally...redesigned skidplate came in!", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just got back from my Dealer. It still isn't 1/4" thick, but at least it has braces on the back side of it. I'm taking a 6 hour drive to see U2 in Denver tomorrow. I'll let eveyone know if it holds up on the trip.
Does it seem strong enough to hold up against an impact on a rock or something?
I just installed it...only took about 10 minutes. Yeah, it's strong enough for rock impacts. I'm more concerned with it vibrating at 60+MPH. Hopefully it will hold up. I never had the original skid plate, so I don't know if this is any thicker or stronger. Considering it was free, I have no complaints!

I could be wrong, but that doesn't look like the redesigned unit. It looks exactly like the rattle bucket I have, the original one in other words. The new one has two reinforcement bars welded along the side of it on the under side that you can't see when it's mounted. Yours doesn't have that. Someone else can chime in but I am almost 100% positive that is the original POS.

MK
ps, they are still on backorder as well.
Uhhh, look again. Both of these have the braces underneath. Can you verify that yours have the braces on them.
Here's more proof-
My new skidplate part number is: PT212-35051
The old junk ones were: PT212-35050
Also, TacomaOffRoadGrl had the old plate and the new one to compare it to. Here is what was said- "Okay picked my truck up this morning with the redesigned plate installed. Kudos to Toyota for reacting to this safety hazard so quickly. The new plate looks like the old one except it mounts much closer to the frame of the truck. The original ones had a huge amount of space between the plate and the frame. Also there are 2 vertical braces (mounting hardware) at the top that are screwed to the top of the plate and bolted to the top 2 mounting bolts on the frame. It looks like for you off roaders that it will function much better as well. Also, I had it up to 75MPH on the highway today and not a single vibration......"

I stand corrected. I guess that is the new one. Doesn't look like much of an improvement. We will see I guess. They don't have any replacements yet in my neck of the woods.
That's definitely the "new" plate. As for the finish, mine is the same finish as the original one. I am very pleased with the new one. Looks great and have had ZERO
Thanks dmode for posting the part number.
