I have a Roll n Lock cover. I love it. My 00 model has no rail caps on the bed. Self install was easy. It took about 90 minutes. No holes to drill in the bed. Drilling was required for the tailgate bracket. It is waterproof, very strong and of course - lockable. Cost $800 delivered, on the web.
Yup, I got the Pace Edwards Trac Top and I am absolutely stoked on it. I think you will be a lot happier if you get the Trac Top instead of the Roll top. The Trac Top sits flush with the bed and it really is difficult to tell that it's there from the side. I don't know if you have to take off the rail caps, but they do come with their own caps which act as the guides for the sliding cover.
One thing to remember if you're doing it yourself, the bed is narrower at the cab than at the rear of the truck. If you want to save a couple hundred bucks, you should do it yourself. I watched the guy install my cover and if you have some basic tools it should be a snap. There is no drilling involved, everything is bolt-on.
Also, if you have the cash, get the Bedlocker Everything can be wired to your remote.
Is the Pace Edwards Trac-top similar to the Peragon folding cover? I was considering getting either the Peragon or the Advance Cover, but it sounds like there is another one to consider...
Originally posted by Gatorfan: am interested in purchasing one. Anyone have any experiences with one? Can it be installed without removing the bed rail caps? Thanks
Yes it can be installed without removing the caps. I have one and i really like it. the only thing that you might consider is, it may be troublesome if you park under trees. Things like small leaves and pine needles can get in the box and stop up the drain holes. When that happens you have to remove 4 screws to remove the top to clean it out. This is probably the case with any roltop.
Silverbullet, I recently ordered the Peragon Cover. I like the concept of no box and ability to quickly remove it for full access to the bed and front tie downs. Leaks might be an issue for some folks but I'm not too concern about that. I like the utility and clean look. I'll post an update when I get the goods and install it.
I've had one on my '00 TRD Limited for almost two years, and it is great! Lockable, watertight storage when you need it and access to the bed for large load items too.
zpx606, not a problem. Peragon was having a special promotion. $595 delivered to my door. The original quote I received last September was $795 plus $65 shipping. They seem to be really nice folks. Ktundra
I installed the Peragon cover last October. I love this cover. The panels seal very well. Sometimes, condensation does form on the underside of the panel. This is a very nice cover. They are extremely helpful if you have any installation questions.
I have a couple more questions if you are willing Sailfish.
Can you drive around with it open. Is there anyway to leave it partially open and lock it in that position. Just how easy is it to take out? I know it is aluminum. Do you know what the finish is (powder coat or what) and finally how do you maintain the finish?
Yes, you can drive with it open. They have a little device that holds the sections together. I have driven with it that way on the freeway for a short distance, while hauling framing lumber. The finish is black, powder coat. It has a slight gloss. I have not done anything to the finish yet. I will use zymol on it soon. I love that "real" zymol. And the only time I can hear some noise is when the rear slide window is open. I usually do not have it open, so it does not matter. It does have a sense of security over a soft cover and yet offers the flexibility of the soft cover.
It is actually, quite cool. Everybody that has seen it thinks it is cool. It takes a few hours (around three) to get everything adjusted just right.
I think I was one of the first for the Tundra, I actually had to send the first rails back to them, the rails were not of the finest quality along the finished edge. But they corrected the problem and the workmanship is just fine. I would have returned it had they not fixed this issue.
I would get it again, and if they have reduced the price, I would go for it.
Let me know if I can answer any other questions. Be sure to look at the cap in motion on their web site. I do not have any pictures of the cap in place. I will try to get a few.
Ktundra - Thanks for the input. I checked into the Peragon, but eventually decided on the Advance Cover (KCovers.com-Mark Kidder was really helpful). I liked the Peragon's looks, but Peragon doesn't have a local dealer and I couldn't find anyone that had one to look at. I actually like the folding cover a little better because it opens from the front and back, so it's like having two storage compartments. Cover is also removeable--just have to loosen two small bolts. Also, Installation was a breeze (even though I modified the weatherseal slightly). No doubt the Peragon looks really clean, but I decided on the Advance Cover. So far, I'm really happy with it...
