Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Found a new secret hiding place in my Tundra!", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I was looking for a place to hide a spare key inside my vehicle that would enable me to open my locked glove compartment without shutting off my ignition and I found a cool place. Why? Let's just say that I keep a personal protection device in my locked glove compartment that I may have to get to fast.
Anyway, I found that if you use your thumb and index finger to can pop out the little hole thingy on the left side of the bottom console near the cup holders with some squeezing and pulling pressure. It's that real small concave hole where a lot of us keep spare pennies. Anyway, I made a key and used some velcro and stuck in down inside the hole on the side after I took out the plug. It's real deep in there so if you drop anything, you'll have a hard time getting it out. It's highly unlikely that anyone will know that this thing pops out, unlkes you read this thread.
Just FYI and sharing information.

FYI, you can also remove the "tray" in the center of the console, in front of the cup holders, with relative ease. There's lots of room under there.
I managed to fit my hands-free kit's "brain" under there (slid it under the cup holders) and I'm going to try to mount my XM "brain" in there, too.

How about the piece in the very front of the console (It is right under the ash tray.). My 2005 DC has a black piece that is indented and I was wondering if there is much room behind it. I am considering mounting my AUX input there.
You think car thieves don't surf automotive sites to get ideas?
If my Tundra gets vandalized, and they rip apart these secret hiding places thinking I've got a spare key, personal protection device, or "stuff", I'll know that they read it right here on TS!

C'mon MS, do you really think car thieves know how to even turn on a computer?

Yep! That's where I keep my Uh-Hmmmm "Personal Protection Device #44"
I'm afraid to use that since some kid could stumble upon it if they got in the truck. I like the fact that the glove compartment stays locked and it takes a key to open it.

Sad, but true, the best protection you can have nowadays is to be insured. If a thief really wants your stuff, they're going to get it, hiding place, alarm, pit bull or deadly asp or not................
And I'm not saying that just because I work in the insurance industry.......

The cab of my Tundra requires a key to open it too. If they break into my Tundra cause the doors were locked I don't think a locked jockybox (glovebox to non-westerners) will stop'em.
Gee, maybe I shouldn't have screwdrivers in my tool kit since they have sharp points and could be used to stab someone.
Sorry, it isn't the object that is the problem, it is the mis-use of the object by the person.
Not intended against you personally, just the whole mindset of blame the object, not the person.

Anyone remove theirs??
I removed mine to install my Sirius unit, it pries out fairly easy, but the plastic is soft. I do not remember how much room is behind it, but I do remember seeing the airbag center sensor and part of the computer behind it.
