This is a discussion thread titled "Wing window lock broke...Part not so easy to replace, anyone try to fix this?", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Same problem here! Mine will lock closed, open it comes apart. The little plaste loop broke. Just happened over the weekend, are you talking about the access cab door window?
This part was updated to a 'new, improved' part. I replaced mine with the new part # and so far it hasn't broke. I really isn't that hard to replace, I wouldn't even try to fix the broken one. /Mike

I just replaced mine a couple weeks ago after being broke for about 3 years. It's not hard to replace. Remove the door panel and you'll gain access to two bolts(12mm or 14mm) that holds the bracket, then you'll use a phillips screw driver to loosen it from the window. As far as the panel, there's only 2 phillips head screws that holds it together(one in the arm rest pocket and the other at the handle), the rest is held in with rivets that pop in and out.
Yup... mine broke about a year ago. Seems like everybody has problems with those peices of crap. Fortunetly, the one that I bought seems to be holding up pretty well. It was EXTREMELY easy to replace... just follow dyogim's instructions above.

It must be the time of year. Mine broke last weekend and I replaced it. I used them on my '01 AC for two years and never had one break. I used this one three times and it broke. I hesitate to use the other side. BTW, the part is about $30.
its easy to take the panel off. there are two screws to take out, one in the handle and one in the indentation of the arm rest. use a screwdriver to gently pry the pieces out of the door panel itself. then with your hands starting at the top corner of the door opposite the hinged side, pull the panel off of the door. after that you just open the window, unscrew the old lock, and screw the new one on, starting with the little bolt that goes in the window portion first! that will save you some trouble. i just had to replace mine 3 days ago, but i dont know what part # i got. does toyota update the order numbers automatically so i can assume that i got the right part number after i asked the parts guy at my local dealer or is there a chance his computer hasnt been upgraded and i got the old part that wants to break still?
I actually just pulled the top part of the panel off and stuck a roll of duck tape in to hold it away from the door frame. I was able to access the bolts pretty easily.
