Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Linex Question:", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have an '02 Tundra AC with Linex on the bed and on the front bed rail (under the rear slider window). I installed a folding tonneau cover a few years ago, and had to install the "D" seal on top of the rail that had Linex on it. Needless to say, the seal didn't really "seal" due to the coarse nature of the Linex surface so I get leakage during the rain. I did not have this problem on the side bed rails because the seals installed on top of the plastic bed rail covers.
So what I decided to do was install an aftermarket front bed rail cover (much like the side ones) and install a new seal on top of the bed rail cover. The only problem I have is, how do I install the plastic bed rail cover to the Linex surface (the bed rail cover came with pre-installed double sided tape on the inside top)? Is there a way to remove the Linex or at least "smooth" it out so that the adhesive tape will stick?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys.
ken, why not just use a rubber gasket material between the cap and linex...just forget about adding the rail covers. you should be able to find some simple roll type gasket material at the hardware store.

Thanks Wylcat.
Maybe I didn't explain it very well (I have a tendency of doing that). I currently have a rubber gasket installed as you described. It is called a "D" gasket or seal and is made of rubber. It has a peel & stick adhesive on one side. The problem is that the Linex is so porous or coars that the adhesive tape does not make good contact, so the water can seep underneath, which is what is happening.
Keep in mind too that this cover is opened frequently at the front. It is a four section folding tonneau and the front section opens to allow access to the bed.
I already have the new bedrail for the front, it was cheap (about $25). Just trying to figure out a good way to secure the bedrail to the Linex covered portion of the truck.

Ken---If you don't think you will be taking the cover off for quite a while then I would say to get a tube of GE 100% silicone and put a bead on top of the bed then set the cover on top and put some weight on it till it sets up. Silicone holds well and is going to be water proof. LARRY

Actually, not a bad idea! I can use the slicon between the Linex and the bed rail to hold the bed rail on. It should work pretty well at getting into the nooks and crannys on the Linex, and I don't plan on taking the bed rail off ever once installed. HMMMMM
Well, I think that's unusual to have the seal attached to the bed, it's usually attached to the cover.
But, if you looking for "glue" that will stick to LINE-X, you can use "3M Emblem Adhesive" and you can buy it at Pep Boys. Make sure the LINE-X surface is super clean. This is if the silicone doesn't work.
