Default Rear view mirror w/temp and compass problem.

About a year ago my outside temp on my rear view mirror change to OC, and since then stayed that way. My compass works, But the temp reads OC, any ideas why or what to do about it?

Thanks,
John

John, have you located your temperature sensor yet? It should be a small metal probe, probably 3-4 inches long. It's possible it has been dislodged from the original location and is reading a far too high/low temperature, thus showing an "OC" sign on your mirror. I'm not sure what "OC" stands for, though. Maybe since you're in Houston, it stands for "Overly Cooked"

No I have not looked for it, not sure where it would be. I'll have to consult the book on that truck, but your probably right! Thanks for the tip.

"OC" most likely stands for "Out of Calibration", meaning you may have to take it to the dealer to have it (re)calibrated.

Default temperature sensor problem

I just bought a 2003 access cab less than a month ago and it has had the same problem since I got it. Let me know what you figure out about your problem. Thanks

Will do! I call or run by the dealer if the book doesn't say. If they want to keep my truck, forget it. Not that important, I'll just ask why it's reading that!

Yeah, we really don't need a thermometer in Houston anyway.

Average Houston forecast:
Weather: Unexpected
Temperature: Hot as Hell

(This is a year-round forecast, too)

Or it could mean 0 degrees celcius, mine said that on the way into the office this morning. It warmed up from -2C during the trip.

lol Yeah I always tell people visiting, if you don't like the weather in houston, wait 5 minutes! lol Usually in the summer atrdnut is right "Hot as hell!" Friday I was in shorts and a Tshirt, woke up saturday to do my brakes, jeans tshirt and a sweatshirt. Got nippy over night and stayed that way all day and rained.

This is pretty funny! I rolled into the Dealer, Don McGill and the parts dept was pack! Ugh So I just came home and started cleaning the inside of the truck. I was messing with the buttons on the rear view to see if I could straiten this OC problem out. I peeked back where the plug was and there was a wire pulled away from the plug. So I unplugged it, crammed the wire back in the plug slot and plugged it back in the mirror. Bingo 85 here in Houston. Wooohhooo! I would have looked stupid at the dealer!

I just noticed in the last couple of days that my compass was beginning to be slow to lock on and change direction as the vehicle turned. Then it would just stay on South when I was heading North, etc. I had installed mine over 2 years ago when a bunch of us bought them from Carson Toyota for 79.95. It was a heck of a deal. Anway I had no problems in all that time and couldn't find my manual. So I seemed to remember that the compass needs to be recalibrated by goind to a parking lot and turning the vehicle in complete circles several times. I couldn't remember if it was counter clockwise or clockwise. So I did 2 comlete circles in each direction and the thing is working perfectly again, quickly changing and locking on to the correct direction. It is weird. I wonder what made it stop working properly. Anyway just wanted to advise anyone who might have read this thread and a compass problem, that is the way to remedy it.
