Default Bed Tie Downs

I have a 2000 Tundra. I installed a Pace-Edwards retractable bed cover shortly after I purchased the truck. I had to remove the two tie down brackets that were in the front of the bed so I could install the Pace retractable cover box. I would like to have two tie downs in the front of the bed again. The retractable cover box lid covers the two post holes in the top rail of the bed which are in the front so I cannot use the tie downs that fit in these holes. Any suggestions on how I can get a tie down hook or bracket in the front of the bed? I thought about drilling a hole in each corner and installing an eye hook but I would rather get something that is made for truck as a tie down option. Thanks.

Default Tie down brackets needed

I just purchased a used tundra and it had one of those retractable covers in it. I have a motorcycle to haul so I took it out and sold it. I am looking to get some of the tie down hooks that you were just talking about removing. Would you be interested in selling them to me along with the screws? I also need the bottom drain hole plugs if you took them out too.

My only suggestion for tiedowns with the cover in there, would be to trim the part that covers the stake holes so you can put some tiedowns in there.

I had the same issue with a Retrax cover and hauling a motorcycle. I purchased some removeable wheel chaulks and some "bed bolts." Yes, they are actually called "bed bolts." I purchased mine off of ebay but do a search and you can find them many places. Easy to install and they work great.

Could someone explain a little more on how to install the wheel chocks and bed bolts?

Yeah. Same for me. I installed the PE Bedlocker and had to remove the front tie-downs. I've thought about tapping into the side-rail with the original tie-downs and a backing plate but if anybody has any better solution, I'm interested.

For the bedbolts click on this link:
http://www.bedbolts.com/index.html

It should explain most any question you have about the tie down points. All you need is a 3/4" hole saw and a 1 1/16th socket or adjustable wrench to tighten them down.

For the wheel chocks, this is what I was talking about:
http://www.mrproducts.com/motorcycle02.htm

I bought two removeable chocks and an extra mounting kit.

I don't have any pictures but let me try to explain how I installed mine. I anchored my chocks to a piece of plywood so they are completely removeable from the bed The plywood extends from the bulkhead of the bed back as far as you want. Just mount the chocks back far enough on the plywood so they clear the cover box. To limit side to side movement, I mounted the plywood board to a couple of two by fours that are the width of the bed.

By using this combination, I can put two small dirtbikes side by side or my big streetbike (Triumph Daytona 955i.) without any problems.

Any more questions just let me know.

Never thought about using the front tie downs I removed when installing the PE cover. I guess that a backing plate would be necessary. I really didn't want to have to cut the cover box lid to expose the front stake pockets but know of no other way to have them exposed so I can use one of the many types of tie downs that are available that requires the stake pockets.

I too have a PE JackRabbit installed and have looked at these movable tiedown points. They are lighter duty but seem to be beefy enough for most items. Has anyone used these along with the bedcover?

Default Bed tie downs

I just bought a set of the slide n locks by hilift. Does any have any experience with these or something similar? I thought it looked pretty nice and functional. It should be here on tuesday.

Default Slide n Lock

I installed the slide n lock cargo tie downs iin the bed over the weekend. They are great. Fastens to the inside turn down face of the bed rail cap. I cut them to length and secured them with the SS bolts supplied. There are two sliding "cars" that have a tie down eye and securing pin that you can position about every 6" along the rail. There is a rail on each side of the bed each with two "cars". It is a very nice clean install and looks like it will become very usefull.
The only thing I would do different is cut the rails long enough that when the tailgate is closed the "cars" can not be slid out of the rails. I cut mine a little too short and if you try you can force the "cars" out of the rail. They are about $45 to replace.
If I ever get the time I will try and post a picture.
