This is a discussion thread titled "Line-X Pricing", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Wow have prices gone up. $450 to for an under the rail line-x. I've had three trucks done at this shop and the first was $320 and the other two were $370. Now, $450! I called two shops and the prices are the same. They said line-x has come down on everyone and they have to provide proof of consistency and pricing has been standardized. I'm still in shock.
I just had mine done (under the rail) on 05 DC here in Jacksonville for $400 and then got an additional $20 off with coupon on goline-x.com. The coupon was buried here <http://www.goline-x.com/process.shtml>
I just got mine done in Charleston, SC for $415. I also had another truck done about a year ago and they did it for $380. I used the coupon from their site both times.
No, LINE-X corporate has not "come down" on anyone, there is no standard pricing, and you do not have to provide proof of anything regarding pricing. That would be illegal (price fixing). Eash franchise operates independantly and corporate cannot interfere.
Dealer cost did go up Jan 1, 2005 due to the price of oil. I would assume that all brands are suffering the effects of the price of oil. Some brands are even having a hard time getting raw materials. Most dealers have to have the product shipped to them, were talking about 1,000 pounds per set of chemicals. I betcha shipping costs have increased also. Luckily, I can go pick up my chemicals because LINE-X has a distribution center near me.

It wasn't for proof of pricing but something to do with standards. He said he had to provide some documentation as to the thickness levels of the liner due to the nationwide guarantee and that some outfits were doing shoddy workmanship in the past. So, line-x started to crack down on that or so he said.
I paid $350 for my first one a few years back and $370 30 months ago. My buddy paid $400 just six months ago so prices have definitely gone up in this area. I did call two places and both gave me the same price, $450.
Well, here's what he's talking about: When the dealer enters the information in the database for the warranty, you have to input the thickness via a guage that we all have, which is stupid, because the thickness varies every place you put the guage and you can enter any amount you want. After you've sprayed your first 30 or so trucks, you don't need the guage any more. Good idea for the newbies, though.

Over here in NY I paid $650 through the dealer, and that was 11 months ago.
"Hey, a bright new quarter on the ground. I should pick it up. WWWHHHOOOO!"
That will teach me to bend over at the dealership.
I'm not sure what the Line-X dealer would have charged but it does sould like I paid too much, I'm sure the dealer turned a nice profit.
123 Gone: How much does an under the rail spraying cost at your shop? I was just curious to see if different parts of the country charged more. I know that you said that price fixing was illegal, but I figure each shop is gonna price it similar to the other ones around it. I checked 5 shops around here and all where within $15 of one another.---$410-$425.
I'm not an economist, but I believe price fixing is when competitors set a price. So if Rhino and Line-X agreed with each other to fix their price, that would be price fixing. I know of other companies that have pricing policies; Pioneer, Alpine, Eclipse, and etc...
As for Line-X. When I went back to my Line-X installer the other month, I was told the prices were around $430ish. So I told him that I got my old truck done for $375. And that I liked that price much better. I ended up getting my way, and I was happy with the product. You repeat customers might want to try my approach. I guess it might also help that I have several installers within 30 min distance from my house.
Joey, you are correct, but there's more to it. LINE-X dealers are independent business owners and they do compete. Sometimes it's a big problem. LINE-X dealers who conspire to control the product, I believe, is also price fixing.
Man I'm glad I paid for this when I got my truck through the dealer. I read the invoice and the Line-X guy only charged Toyota $149, probably due to volume he gets from them. Toyota threw this in for free when I bought the truck too. I'm going to make sure I get my next Tundra done the same way since I love the liner so much.
