This is a discussion thread titled "Painting Aluminum", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
For the life of me, I cant find a flush-mount BLACK toolbox for the bed of my rig. Home Depot has the PERFECT one, its a husky, but it only comes in aluminum. How much/how difficult/how would it look/how would it last if I painted it black? Or is this just more effort than its worth? Thanks a lot for the responses.

You can paint it like any other metal. Just make sure it is clean and oil free. If it is oxidized much you will need to rough it up with steel wool or a wire wheel.
Nice, how much did it run you? Is it a flush mount? Hows the fit? I got one from home depot (aluminum, and its too big, it hits the fenderwells. It sticks above the bed around an inch. Let me know. Thanks.
It wasn't too bad, about $275. Mine is the over rails, low profile type of box. I like the fact that it doesn't block the front cargo loops for tieing things down, and it can still carry sheets of plywood. I'll take some pics. The fit is perfect for the tundra. They have a between the rails box, not sure of the dimensions though, but they are on the web site. Just search by truck model and you'll find it.

Rought it up and just make sure you run a good solid few coats of primer. You can also look into "hammerite" paint. It is a little thicker than normal paint. You may also want to consider coating it with a Line-X or Rhino Liner type finish because you may find yourself sitting and standing on it often.
