This is a discussion thread titled "Locking fuel cap?", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Does anyone know where I could buy or order a locking fuel cap for my 05 Tundra? Fishing season starts next weekend and with the high price of gas, there is likely going to be a lot of gas siphoned from vehicles while they are parked at the lake unattended? Our local parts stores here only have them listed up to 03 model year and they do not fit the 05.

Got mine at a local AutoZone for about 11 bucks. It's a Stant 11506. I have an '05 Tundra and have not experienced any of the CEL symptoms spoken of by others.
My 2000 Tundra has a key lock on the gas cap door. I assumed they all did?
Toyota did away with the key lock on the gas cap door after the '02 models. If you want to secure your fuel on an '03 and later Tundra, you have to buy an aftermarket locking gas cap. Hence this thread.

I just received a reply from Stant via e-mail and they tell me that for my 2005 DC 4X4 the part numbers read like this: Boxed cap 11509 and Carded cap 11509. I don't know what the prefixes mean but they say you can get them at Pep Boys or Advance Automotive.
So is that an 11509 or an 11506 and what might the difference be? Supposedly the 11506 is the locking cap for a Corvette BUT it also works for the 05 Tundra. No one sells Stant caps here but I'm told that the Motorad brand they do sell is made by Stant anyway and is the same thing. I am just going to try to match one up for a Corvette.

11509 is the number they gave. I see all these posts saying 11506 also. Heres what I'm gonna do. When I get to the lake Memorial day I will take out the stock cap and screw in the stant locking one. That way I don't have to worry about the CEL on the way there and back. Here at home I work on a military installation so theft of gas is not a worry during the day.Like I said I think I'll just keep the Stant around for security convience depending on where I go. Take it easy.
Well nobody here sells Stant fuel caps but almost everyone sells Motorad caps. I am told they are made by Stant so I bought the MGC-804 model that is specified for the Chevy Corvette as it is the most similar to the Tundra cap. It would not quite fit properly, the two lock tabs did not quite go in deep enough to engage the two threads on the fuel filler. I trimmed the two tabs back about 1/16 inch with a Dremel tool and it seems to engage and lock ok, so far no engine light yet so hopfully it will work ok.

Just bought 2 from Auto Zone, both CST's, 5501 and 5791(1 for each truck), thier not the right ones (threaded as opposed to the tangs) but 5791 seems to be a better fit than the 5501 and no check engine light yet. Here in MA a 20 yr old caught on fire siphioning gas from a utility truck on a construction site. Truck was totalled and the fool ended up with 2nd degree burns, IDIOT!!!

I don't know about the truck burning, but the 2nd degree burns are right on.
That my friend, is what I call JUSTICE.
Thank you.......
I also need a locking gas cap. I'll cruise over to PEP BOYS and see what I can find.
5501 and 5791 DO NOT WORK so don't waste your time. Made it 15 days before the check engine light came on.
Yeah, if possible you need to stick to the Stant 11506 or the 11509. I have been running the Stant 11506 for 2 and half years with no issues. Of course Stant now has an official application for the Tundra which is the 11509 or 10509.

Well,.......by reading this thread, it looks like there are at least two peeps that have had success with the Stant 11506, one for a 2003 Tundra, and one for a 2005 Tundra.

The correct cap for the '03 and up Tundra AC is the Stant 10509/11509 cap. 10509 comes in a box, 11509 is the same cap on a bubble packed card.
The 11506 is NOT the correct cap. Check the Stant site to confirm:
