This is a discussion thread titled "Composite Bed--how do you "upkeep"?", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Wondering if anyone has proven advice on how to restore the shiny black look to the composite bed. I realize its a truck and have used as such...hauling dirt, rocks etc. I have a small scratch in one spot and just a more "worn" look in others. Are there products to get it clean, black, and shiny again, or do I just face the fact that the bed will eventually look like a used truck bed since that's what it's made for?
thanks in advance
Best advice I can give is buy the Toyota rubber bed mat. It's cheap and it will protect the entire bottom of the bed. If you want more protection, buy the bed rug for the truck. It's a two piece assembly and will protect the entire bed, sides and all. I have the bed mat and it works awesome. It keeps stuff from sliding around which is worth it already.
LOL....I finally ordered a rubber bed mat from a dealer who had one on ebay. (It was about $70 with shipping.)
I had to bring my garden tiller back to Sears for repair yesterday (NEVER buy a craftsmen with a motor in it...total piece of crap and wasn't even covered under warranty) Stupid thing is only 14 months old....I have a Stihl weed wacker that runs like a CHAMP and it's 13 YEARS old!
Anyway, the tiller was sliding all over in the bed and hitting the front and back pretty hard....I'll be glad to get the mat installed.
Me and my Dog love the factory bed mat, very good quality its the thickest mat Ive ever seen. And I use Honda Spray Wax/Cleaner to keep the sides of the bed looking new, it has a UV protectant in it. I also use it on the dash, doorhandles, grill, mirrors, wheels, bumper, glass and frame it will also makes furnature look new, LOL... S100 also has a similar product that works great.

To keep that quality truck bed look, forget mats. Your spare screwdriver and tire pressure gauge you never use will only get lost under it. Treat your composite bed like a regular steel bed. First make sure its good and dirty (clay based dirt lasts longest), couple rocks of medium size, and add some bark (like you've been hauling wood). Now add several empty beer cans, some need oto be semi-crushed. Now add two bottles of drygas (Northern states only), one empty and one for the ready in case your snowmobile needs it. Finally one rusty tow chain and and old rusty saw. Now your composite bed is ready to 'look' the part around town.

I agree, the bed mat is a must! Love it, works great and I agree that it is also one of the thickest mats I have seen. I keep my fridge and storage box in the bed and neither one have moved an inch!

Yes, the bed mat is a total non-skid piece of rubber that actually works.
I was loading a 120 pound punching bag, and all I wanted to do was get one end up onto the tailgate then slide the rest of the heavy as$ bag into the bed. The damn bed mat wouldn't let the bag slide in and I had to call someone over real quick before I dropped the bag to help me carry it.
I think that was the only time I was let down with the bed mat. when it was doing what it was supposed to do.
I had to move a dresser and it would be a life saver to be able to slide it in. The bed mat is so "sticky" that I just said screw it and took it out before loading the thing.
