if it was properly installed there are small strips of what looks like 3M tape between the "crimps" and the hood....the paint should not be damaged at all....an aside...i have a toyota bugshield which i really like...it stated very clearly on mine(mine had a big yellow sticker on it) that it should never be used in a carwash....

Thanks. Thing is, I worked for a Toyota Dealership for a while, and as a matter of practice, we ran trucks with bugshields through the carwash all the time.
All a man really needs for happiness in this world is a good woman, a faithful dog, and a big-assed set of tires on his truck.

yes i know that dealerships do it all the time so i thought it was rather amusing that it was clearly stated on the sticker attached to the bugshield...sorry to hear about it tho...if it was ME...i'd replace it...but then again i tend to get bugs and rock chips all over the windshield...your mileage may differ...

Where's the best place to get a factory replacement? I'm not real thrilled about paying full price at my local dealer.

Ok guys here we go I nstalled an AVS Auto VentShield bug shield last weekend took a total of less than 90 minutes. I'll scan in the directions and model number when I get back to the house. these steps are from memory
1- remove the hood latch release and hood latch (10mm socket)
2- remove center grill from hood (6 bolts total) you may need penetrating oil. and set grill aside.
3- clean area (center grill hood lip) with mild soap and water dry and prep area with alcohol wipes.
4- prep center area of bug shield with alcohol wipes and afix double sided 3m tape.
5. center bugshield on hood and afix to the hoods lip where the grill mounts with tape.
6- replace center grill, and attach ends of bugshield to the under side of hood with included self taping screw and rubber groment.
the bug shield is very secure and it has a 1+" clearance for the hood.
Does the Toyota bug shield from an 00 to 02 tundra fit the 03 to present Tundra style grill reason i am asking is I just purchased a grill from a Ts member to mod my 00 to look like the 03 tundra grill so just updating the front grill with a newer grill 03 style and have it colored keyed look i am going for.Presently right now I have a cologan bra since I purchased it in 2000 and really getting tired of the look and thinking about getting an bug shield from a 2000 Tundra but dont know if this fit's the 03 on Toyota tundra grill.

i paid ~$101.15 after taxes for mine at gullo toyota in Conroe, TX..they list it for $116 on the website but that is wrong...it is ~$93.48 at the dealership....thats about what it will cost anywhere else after shipping or taxes i think for the one that wraps around the hood and headlights...it actually goes down between the headlight and the grill...looks much nicer than the one that goeas straight across IMO...and it doesnt have any white writing on it to detract from the black truck

if its the same hood then the grill wont matter...the bugshield is flat behind the grill and even if the grill is shaped slightly differently the bugshield will work since it doesnt actually bolt on anywhere...it is a pressure fit shield...the pressure between the grill and the tape on the hood is what keeps it on the truck....

I called the dealership and the grill and the valence are the only different from the 03 tundra to the 00. The hood share the same part number as the 2000 tundra and the grill was the only change and the bumper..
