This is a discussion thread titled "overhead counsel for valentine one???", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Anyone know of an aftermarket overhead counsel for hiding the valentine one. I plan on using the remote and mount it somewhere. Actually, I am still planning the whole project and gathering info for now.
I was pulled over a while back (valetine one "off" of course) and was written up for having the v1 mounted on the windsheild (illegal in MN, I guess) and speeding! $230! Who is the theif now? Crooks with badges. If cops can't write a ticket, arrest, or somehow generate revenue (tickets, DUI's) they aren't interested in getting off their donut eating asses. My opinion of course.
If anyone has any ideas I would be all ears and in debt to them.

Supposedly blocking your view throught the windshield? That's a nit-picky offense, but some folks do have the detector and power wire right in the middle of the glass.

Problem is that the sensors, like on 99% of the RD's out there, are on the front and the rear of the unit. Hiding it in a compartment means that you're blocking the sensors which need to be able to "see" front and back in order to be effective.
Only way I could think of would be to mount it very high or very low on your windshield so it's not as visible.
A guy I knew had his RD mounted up on the a-pillar near the top of the windshield. He said it worked fine there, I was a bit skeptical.

I'm from Minnesota "land of 10,000 lakes" and some of the highest taxes and fines in the country. BTW, the fine was $260, not $230 ($130 for speeding and $130 for having something atatched to the winshield. What a bunch of BS. RD's are "legal" but they will throw the book at you if they see one. I had just dropped off my ex after a spat and wasn't thinking when I got pulled over otherwise I would have took it down. Actually, I would not have been speeding if I wasn't hot under the collar Oh-well, Women: can't live with 'em................ I hope that cop starts dating her

I put it in the spot where the compass stuff would be, i cut out the opening and added the back cover, using fiberglass.
I then color matched the paint.
It works very well.
Eventually i may get around to a detailed texture match with some bondo, but it works and is fairly well hidden.
Down to the right of the steering wheel is the concealed display, and i run the detector dark.
Also, the range is awesome, with no obstructions.
