Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Mexico Paint Process", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I've cross posted on other boards in hopes of finding an answer. Does anyone know if the paint process and materials are different at the Mexico plant than the California plant?
According to a Toyota employee who posts a little at Autopia, Toyota likes to outsource things like painting locally, depending on the plant location. He seems to be pretty knowledgable about it - so this leads me to believe that the paint as well as the process could vary from plant to plant.
Paint is applied at the assembly plant as part of the line process. Paint may come from different suppliers (paint manufacturers), but it will always be formulated to Toyota specifications.

I don't know about that. Supposedly Toyota (and Lexus as well) have some of the same models that would normally be painted with a BC/CC painted with a "single stage" paint (Imron) and some painted with a "tinted" clear coat. There's more to it than just saying everyhting is painted the same, because as experience has shown, that's not always the case.

I don't know if they are different but all trucks made and painted at Fremont Ca get the beds already painted from Mexico and just attach them here..
So half of the truck made here is painted in Mexico and Half is painted California.

If that's truly the case, it seems that the paint for both plants would be from a single source. There's no way Toyota would mix paint sources for a single vehicle.

Thats what I thought also.
Check this out tells about the beds being painted in Mexico.
6300 No paint chips from rocks or road debris. I'm glad I saw the truck I got before the speedway blue one I ordered came in!
