Question How do I put on a front license plate?

I have a 2001 Tundra, and want to add a front license plate. There are two black tabs on my bumper, but they have no threading for screws. Is there another part I need?

Default license plate

G'mornin:

Your dealer should have the screws that you need for the front plate.

Or if you want to get fancy; I used a chrome frame with plastic plate guard and mounted it using chrome hex bolts and lock nuts on the back side.

This isn't easy because there is not a lot of room to get your hand and tool in the back but it looks good.

Thats because there are two plastic attachments that the screws pull down onto to grab onto the bumper. You need to get those two attachments and the screws.

Anyone have any ideas on how to mount a front license plate with a chrome bumper? I recently purchased a Tundra in Michigan and live in Ohio and need to mount a frint plate.

I spoke to my local dealer and they are not quite sure what to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

There are two little black mounting brackets that have to be screwed into the backside of the bumper. It is very difficult to see. I had to get a little mirror and a flashlight to determine where they were.

There should be screw holes in a little metal tab on the backside of the bumper so that the license plate mounting brackets can be screwed into them. Once mounted, the two little mounting brackets will have holes in the front for you to mount your plate.

Any other questions let me know. You should be able to call the parts dept and get a part number of exactly what you want. Don't know who you talked to at the dealer, but it was obviously the wrong person.

There should be two plastic tabs that hang down from the top of the wide bumper opening with a hole in each that will accept a self taping screw.

It they aren't there you will need to get them from your dealer.
