    Question "Ticking" Dash board

Not all the time, but sometimes there is a "ticking" or creaking with the dashboard. The sound appears to be coming from somewhere near the glove box.

    Any fixes?

I had some creaking with my dash. But closer to the center of the dash.
The dash was rubbing against the windshield glass. Try sticking some folded
up napkins between the glass and the plastic. This allowed me to figure out
where the noise was coming from, then I cut a piece of black foam door
weatherstripping to replace the napkins. Silence is golden.

    Walt,

Welcome to TundraSolutions! I noticed 3 of your 4 posts so far are questions about paint chipping, dashboard noise, & towing. All of these topics have been extensively discussed in the past - may I suggest you try the search tool? For example, I just did a quick search on "dashboard noise" & found this very useful thread.

Don't take this wrong, but I'm afraid you might get little response because many people might ignore you as "oh great, another newbie asking the same old questions"! (I recount this from experience - we've all been there!)

    Regards,
    Dave

    Wink

Well, I stand corrected as evidenced by the responses to Walt's questions thus far! Obviously I've been hanging out on too many other boards populated with skeptics & arrogant people!

Proof once again that the nicest people drive a Tundra!

Please don't be offended Walt - just trying to pass some hard-earned experience.

    No Prob Dave:

I figured I might get flamed as being a newbie, but its all good. I am a regular poster on other boards (Motocross) so know what does down.

The Tundra represents a lot of firsts for me. My first truck, my first Toyota (Honda guy), and my first new vehicle (usually bought stuff a couple of years old).

I only posted about a couple of problems, but I absolutely LOVE this truck. I looked around a lot and got the truck with all the options that I wanted and none that I didn't (except that ABS comes with the DRL's).

I hope for my tires and fuel mileage sake that it dries up around here. With the wet & rainy weather, I can't help but enjoy the fishtailing around turns and spinning the tires "off the line".

As for newbies, I, along with everyone else, was there not long ago. This place is AWESOME!!! Friendly people, great info, good fun...what more could you ask for?

Quickly getting back on topic, I had the same dash squeaking problem. I don't remember who it was, but some smart person figured out that if you put 1/2" caulk backing into the crevise btwn the windshield and the dashboard, the squeak goes away. I think it costs a couple bucks from Home Depot or Lowes.

Again, WELCOME TO TS...you're gonna love it here!!!

I have this ticking sound in my dashboard and have taken it to my dealer twice to fix it. This ticking is like a chinese water torture for me. I am going to try all of the solutions suggested to try to remedy this problem. Everyone here rocks! Default Ticking Dash

I have the same plastic ticking sound, but I thought it was because I had removed my radio/AC cover to poke around the radio and amp. It is nice to see I am not the only one.

Now, where did I put that weather stripping?

    Andy "

I've also heard of people using 5/8" caulk backing. For more info, you can do a search using "caulk" or "dashboard", "squeak", etc.

    Good luck...................

I noticed a metal-sounding-clank-ticking thing going on near my head unit also. It was usually when I made a turn or stop/go move. After much troubleshooting, I pulled my 3-in-1 radio out and a QUARTER fell out of the unit.

Ahhh, the joy of having a 3 year old boy!

Noise is now gone and he is heavily supervised when in my truck!

Question Have you figured out the ticking problem under the dash as I have the same problem?

Hey there, and welcome to TS. Get some 3/8" or 1/2" "Caulking backer rod" at Home Depot or Lowes and stuff it between the dash and windshield. It virtually disappears so nobody will notice it and the ticking sound goes bye-bye.

Thanks for the warm welcome, have been a member for awhile just never posted anything. Had my Tundra for 2 years and its been a great truck. I'll give the caulking backer rod a try and hopefully this will cure it.
