Question Gasoline odor in cab after fueling

I've recently noticed a fairly strong gasoline odor in the cab after refueling my 2002 Tundra (8,000 miles). It goes away after a while but is annoying and can't be very healthy.

Anyone else experience this problem, know why it occurs, and how to fix it???

Thanks!!!

I have had this happen in all of my vehicles. I try to keep the doors closed when refueling. You have the same effect that a boat bilge has. Vapors build up and vent and if you dont put on your bildge fan you might have a fire. Your gas tank vents in a very similar fashion, but just not with a fan.

Are you overfilling the gas tank, after the pump clicks off that should be it? If you try to squeeze more fuel in you will flood the evaporative canister and get a gas smell.

I never overfill, but I did have the door open during the last refuel. Can't remember on previous times. I will try and keep the door to the truck shut and see if that helps. Thanks for your replies.

I always close the door and lock it (old habits ...) when filling the tank and I've never smelled gas in the interior afterwards. If the door is open and it's downwind of the filler spout, the interior could get a good whiff.

just to cover all of the bases... are you sure you don't just have a little gas on your hands?

Yes, it could be on your hands, your shoes or your clothing also. I notice the smell of gasoline occasionally after filling up but I notice this after filling other vehicles too and it does go away fairly quickly so I don't worry about it.

Lightbulb

The solution to my problem was keeping the door closed while refueling. I feel like a bit of a bonehead on this one, but thanks for all the replies!!
